As the founder of Virtues of Valor, I often reflect on the mission and purpose behind this nonprofit, which is grounded in honor, service, and an undying dedication to our veterans. Today, I feel an especially deep need to speak from my heart—not only about the tragic and unforgettable events of September 11th, 2001, but also about someone very dear to me: my close friend, fellow Air Force veteran, and brother-in-arms, Chuck Weymouth.

As we celebrate this year, the journey of Virtues of Valor continues with a mission that remains steadfast—honoring the fallen, empowering veterans, and advocating for mental health. Yet, the path of growing a non-profit in today’s world is fraught with challenges. Daily hurdles and the ever-evolving landscape of non-profit work have shown us that our mission, though clear, is anything but simple.

From our inception, we've aimed to create a sanctuary of support and resources for veterans and their families. Our projects, ranging from memorial initiatives to mental health advocacy, have always sought to make a substantive impact. However, the reality of non-profit development, compounded by everyday obstacles, means we constantly need to adapt and overcome.

Our Continuous Fight Against the Odds.

Building a non-profit is a monumental task. Each step forward requires resources—time, money, and human capital—all of which are in limited supply but high demand. As we navigate these waters, we've come to realize the importance of a strong network; a community of supporters, volunteers, and advocates who believe in our cause and are willing to stand with us.

Today, more than ever, we need your help. We're calling on everyone who can lend their skills, time, or resources to help us expand our reach and enhance our efforts. Whether you're a professional looking to offer expertise or a volunteer eager to give time, your contribution can make a significant difference.

We've set a goal: by the end of this calendar year, we aim to significantly grow our network and increase engagement. Should we not see the growth and interest needed to impact the lives we intend to, we may have to make tough decisions. This could mean scaling down our ambitions and focusing solely on maintaining our website as a resource hub for veterans.

Our Gratitude Extends to You.

To everyone who has supported us, whether by reading our messages, sharing our mission, or contributing in any way, thank you. Each step you take with us brings Virtues of Valor closer to achieving our goals. We are profoundly grateful for your time and efforts.

As we move forward, we invite you to join us in this crucial phase of our journey. Let’s band together to make a lasting impact on the lives of our nation’s heroes. Together, we can ensure that the valor of those who served is honored and that their sacrifices are never forgotten.

Memorial Day, a revered occasion for Americans, is traditionally a day to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces. While this solemn day is deeply rooted in history and tradition, there is a growing need to broaden our appreciation and acknowledgment beyond the well-trodden path. Today, we at Virtues of Valor seek to inspire a renewed sense of patriotism and gratitude by shining a light not only on our fallen soldiers but also on the diverse array of agencies and individuals who work tirelessly to protect and uphold the freedoms we cherish.

Words recently shared with us that we knew needed to be shared.

“Rejection is the ultimate protection. Rejection is just redirection for what God has for your life.”

A similar message to that of the song "Unanswered Prayers." It's important to trust that the hard times are often necessary to reach the good times. With the dark, the light is much brighter.

In the journey of life, we encounter moments that test our strength, challenge our resolve, and sometimes, bring us face to face with rejection and loss. For those of us who have served in the military, rejection may not be unfamiliar territory. Whether it's receiving a denial for a promotion, facin...

Checking in on our Veterans in Need: Holidays with Heart

'Tis the season of joy and togetherness, where festive lights adorn the streets, and the air is filled with the warmth of holiday cheer. As families gather around tables, adorned with bountiful feasts, and homes echo with laughter, it's a poignant reminder of the significance that the holidays hold for most Americans. In the spirit of gratitude and reflection, we wish you all a Happy Holidays, surrounded by love and cherished moments that make this time of the year truly special.

Yet, amid the celebrations and joy, it's crucial to recognize that not everyone experiences the holidays with the same abundance of warmth. For some, especially among our cherished veterans, this season brings forth unique challenges. Many continue to grapple with the invisible wounds of service, and the festivities don't alleviate their struggles. Those who have lost comrades-in-arms or loved ones confront the holidays with a poignant void, navigating through the traditions with a sense of absence.

In these moments, as we embrace the spirit of giving, let's extend our compassion to those who may be silently wrestling with the weight of the season. Now, more than ever, is the opportune time to check in on our neighbors, friends, and community members who might be in need. A simple gesture of kindness or a thoughtful conversation can make a world of difference, illuminating the true essence of the season – compassion, empathy, and the spirit of giving. This holiday, let's unite in spreading not only joy but also understanding and support for those who may be facing challenges. Together, we can make this season brighter for everyone, fostering a sense of unity and care that embodies the true spirit of the holidays.

On December 18, 2011, a significant chapter in U.S. military history unfolded as the last U.S. troops completed their withdrawal from Iraq. This marked the culmination of the U.S. military involvement in Iraq, a campaign that began in 2003. While the withdrawal signaled the end of direct combat operations, the United States maintained a substantial diplomatic presence in the country.

After the events like that of December 18th, each soldier carries a unique narrative. For many, a new chapter unfolds, marked by diverse challenges—some triumph, while others face adversity. Progress and divergence define individual journeys, highlighting the distinct tolls experienced by each person. Recognizing the variety in everyone's encounters is crucial. Mental health forms a cornerstone of our mission, especially for veterans, such as those returning from Iraq, who may require our assistance upon their homecoming.
