For those that didn’t know, Autism is a disability near and dear to my heart. I have raised two of my own children with this disorder and advocated for innumerable more. They have taught me more about the human experience than anyone else, and I will forever fight for those that cannot fight for themselves.

TODAY IS WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY and here is my lifelong tribute to those touched by this disorder. My love and heart will never give up on any soul trying to fight for their right to live equally to us. And if you don’t understand how their lives or those of any other disability are equal I ask you to seek that out. One of the last civil rights movements, those with severe disability require the right individual interventions just to be able to speak, read, or walk...or even remain alive. If that’s not disparity in the clearest form I don’t know what is. Make a difference today in the life of someone with autism. 💙💚💛🧡❤️

From my amazing warrior momma friend Linda Burritt about the innovative app we will all want to use:
"It is true! Over the past few years you may not have seen me around as much, and you may have noticed people around my home office working like mad scientists on a mysterious project I was creating called “Mapigator”. Well, I'm finally ready to share what's been happening.
About four years ago I had a life-changing conversation with a good friend of mine, Janine Boleda, that really made me think about the future. Like many other parents raising children with disabilities, we were chatting about our hopes and fears for their future when we are no longer here to care for them. We both came to an epiphany that day: It wasn’t going to be enough to just make sure they were financially provided for, we needed to also make sure they were going to be “safe” in a world that didn’t always welcome and accommodate them.
Connecting with other parents who are on the same journey as ourselves, we both kept hearing how it is often societal attitudes and physical environments that makes their special needs a “disability”. In our personal lives we are champions of inclusion and disability rights; we knew we needed to find a way to help promote these attitudes while raising public awareness and acceptance. We believe we have to level the playing field and encourage public spaces to be more inviting to everyone. We want to include access to sensory friendly environments as well as meet the needs of the guy looking for a men’s bathroom that has a baby changing station in it. We need to recognize that every person has different needs and ALL those needs matter.
We have taken on a David and Goliath fight to try and change societal preconceptions. Through innovative mobile technology, we are going to show the general public that it is in our best interest, as a society, to shift our attitudes towards acceptance of all abilities, no matter the “label".
We need people like you to help with this herculean effort. I'm asking you to join our mission by simply “liking” the Mapigator page and SHARING it with your friends or people who may be interested. THIS! This miracle of communication is what I have worked 13 years for Jacob. Many don't know. When Jacob was little his autism wasn't so severe. He was speaking even at 3 knew his numbers and letters and was such a happy baby and toddler. I put him in public schools and that where it went down hill. The quality of services and instruction he got was below subpar so bad he regressed. I didn't know any better what signs or instruction I should be looking out for. With it I lost my son and his ability to understand and communicate. It was through the trials of losing my son into a darkness of no longer being able to communicate (it's complex to now go back and explain all that was done very wrong but it was) that I threw my mommy advocate hands in the air and in desperation I went to law school. I no longer was going to feel ill equipped to fight for my kids. So I became a lawyer for THEM with no intentions or visions of anyone else. It was through fighting for them that I couldn't tolerate the struggles of other kids and fell in love with the other kids in the same shoes as my kids. So that is how I got where I am today.

This video is amazing and a dream many of us autism parents pray for every day. Jacob is just now getting there and figuring out his voice ...a gift all children merit.

Mexico's public health system has suspended infant vaccines and mounted an investigation after two babies died and 29 were sickened in an impoverished community in southern Mexico.

Six of the 29 babies are in grave condition after receiving vaccinations for tuberculosis, rotovirus and Hepatitis B, which are generally administered before six months of age, according to a national schedule. The cause of the adverse reactions is not known, the Mexican Institute for Social Security said Sunday.

The institute said it stopped vaccines nationwide on Saturday as a precaution.

The Rev. Marcelo Perez, a Roman Catholic priest, told The Associated Press that families of the babies said they became sick within hours. The adverse reactions started Friday and the babies were being treated in a hospital in Simojovel, Chiapas, where 93 per cent of the people live in poverty, 69 per cent in extreme poverty, according to government statistics.

The hospital "doesn't have adequate personnel or equipment," Perez said. "The real problem is the terrible conditions we have ... so that when a baby comes in with convulsions, he leaves dead."

The federal and state government, in a statement Sunday, promised the best medical care for the babies and to stay in contact with the parents to answer all their questions. Perez said he was helping the families collect all the information that could help officials discover the cause of the adverse reactions.
