Tapas & Breath

Tapas means to offer every breath to the fire of soul. If that breath doesn't go to Brahman, then it is death. This breath is a constant offering to Brahman; that is the reason you are alive. In every breath , realizing the oblation in the divine fire is Tapas . The core of Tapas is the breath. If you observe God in every breath then it is kri + ya. That is also ham + sah , that is deha( body) and dehi(soul). In every breath, in every action, practice that kri and ya. It is the door to absolute liberation. Kriya means, work is worship.

Life’s Journey - The Razor’s Edge

Life is a journey, but it is not an easy one. Actually, life is never easy. It is often described as the razor’s edge. It is not a journey from the womb to the tomb; rather it is a path from the unknown to the unknown, in other words, from God to God. The journey of life is a combination of worldly life and spiritual life, which take place simultaneously. With regard to our worldly affairs, our journey is to a great degree a known passage. But spiritual life is laden with numerous unknown factors; hence, it is mostly mystical.

For most of us the journey of life is like a holiday or a pilgrimage. Life after life we return to the world. Fortunately, it is possible to end this seemingly endless cycle by achieving God-realization, which we can attain through intense love, prayer, reflection, contemplation, and meditation. Above all, we must live God-conscious lives with total surrender to God.

Transformation

When one wishes to swim, one has to jump in the water and learn to swim, practicing to the best of one's ability, all that one has learnt. Start with meditation and everything else will be given to you. As you go on practicing, you will gradually learn how to discipline yourself, and through the practice of breath control you will be able to control your senses and mind. Through regular practice and perseverance, you will attain a fundamental and permanent transformation. Butter, once separated from the milk by the churning process, cannot turn back into milk again.

What Is It I Want?

It is so rare that we stop and ask," What is it that I want? What is it really that I am looking for?" Instead, we lunge at the nearest promise of happiness, whether it is food, sensual physical pleasure, marriage or big business, and when that promise is broken or unfulfilled, we still refuse to examine ourselves, but blame the circumstances, blame the situation, blame our partners, or unwilling or unable to look within and perceive what it is we truly desire.

All we really want is uninterrupted happiness, the unending bliss found, not outside, but within. The sooner we stop seeking temporary pleasures in the world and Instead dwell in the permanent joy of the soul, the sooner we will reach our goal and fulfil the desire that has driven us from the day we were born until the moment that, exhausted, we give up this weary body. So be moderate in enjoyment; without this resolve, spiritual progress is very difficult.

Perceive Divinity Everywhere

Kriya filters your mind and thinking process. The art of conscious breathing naturally keeps the mind peaceful and loving. It helps you to perceive divinity everywhere. It gives you the experience of the play of energy in every activity. By practicing the proper technique you will get the divine power that will give you the art of discrimination. You will experience reality and truth, and feel subtle, vibrating energy in the head, which is moving everywhere. In every activity, feel the same vibration that moves from top to bottom. Why do you feel this ? It is because you are in that state of calmness and peace. Calmly remain in that state and cultivate love. Know that you are there in the abode of God and say only, “ O savior, O savior, help me to always to maintain this state of calmness and peace “.

The mind, due to our likes and dislikes, goes on thinking that there exists happiness or unhappiness in one object or another. The mind goes from place to place, from person to person, from one type of job to another, in constant search of lasting happiness. This happens because the mind has never been trained or instructed to go within where the real source of happiness lies.

Understanding

Understanding should be your guiding force in every situation. No matter what your trials, try to understand. God never causes harm or suffering to anyone. It is we, who by understanding or misunderstanding, help or hinder ourselves. Pray to God that no matter what experiences come to you, you may have understanding. It is the only thing that will save you. When my trials become very great, I first seek understanding in myself. I don’t blame circumstances or try to correct anybody else. I go inside first. I try to clean the citadel of my soul to remove anything that obstructs that soul’s all-powerful, all-wise expression. That is the successful way to live.
