It was originally formed by brothers Carlos & Jorge Rios-Nogales along with a group of friends from Latin America or of Latin American descent that shared a love of soccer. The team participated in many leagues throughout the 1990’s but found renewed vigor in 2001, when a group of friends that regularly played together Saturday mornings at Ski Beach for fun decided it was time to play competitivel
y again. At that time, a new version of our Sudaca was born, with the name Sudaca encompassing South Americans ["SUDAmericanos"] and native or transplanted "CAlifornians" along with their friends and families, all of whom shared a passion for this beautiful sport. We initially joined both the “East County Soccer League” and the “Liga de La Amistad” and quickly became "the team to beat" standing out as the only team not composed of mainly Mexican or United States-born players. Simultaneously, we enrolled in indoor leagues throughout San Diego County including Sportsplex Poway, YMCA Point Loma, YMCA Mission Valley, and Folsoms/San Diego Indoor Soccer Center. Once firmly established, we joined the Premier Division of the San Diego County Mens Soccer League [SDCSL] based in Robb Field, Ocean Beach. This league is the most competitive and well known in San Diego. The following year we added teams in both the Super Majors and Masters Divisions. In 2006, Sudaca FC was honored with an invitation to participate in the USA Open Cup Region IV tournament held in Seattle, Washington. and gathers the best teams from the 12 Western states with the winner competing against MLS teams in the Lamar Hunt Cup. In 2007, Sudaca FC consolidated again to just one team under the leadership of Carlos Rio Nogales. Carlos led the team as our General Manager and coach, handling all duties on his own after Jorge and his family relocated to Oregon. Sadly, in March, 2009, our leader and founder Carlos Rios-Nogales died quite unexpectedly while vacationing with his parents in his native Peru. Carlos' tragic and untimely death united Sudaca's remaining players with a common goal to keep this team, with its rich traditions and history, alive and flourishing to honor his memory. Sudaca now has a governing board, with a clear structure and vision for the team. Our purpose is to make certain Carlos’ ideals and his passion for Sudaca and "the beautiful game" endure, that is, not only to compete at the top of the standings, but also for all to know, whether a Sudaca FC player or not, that on any given Sunday, you can go to Robb Field in Ocean Beach and find a welcoming group of friends, acquaintances, family members, and fans -- playing soccer, watching soccer, cheering, chatting, having a great time, and generally enjoying life. Viva our Sudaca Football Club!!!
