Please join us in welcoming Makayla Synak, our new Event & Social Media Coordinator at the San Diego Fire-Rescue Foundation!

Makayla brings extensive experience in program coordination, community engagement, partnership development, and events. In her previous roles, she led programs across multiple schools, developed community partnerships, and coordinated initiatives serving hundreds of young people.

She joined us at exactly the right time, with a very busy fall ahead, and has already hit the ground running. We’re excited to have Makayla on the SDFRF team and look forward to the energy and ideas she’ll bring to our events and social media.

On September 11, 2001, our nation changed forever.

Today, we remember the lives lost, honor the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice, and recognize all those who answered the call in the days and months that followed, including members of San Diego Fire-Rescue who deployed to Ground Zero to support the recovery effort.

Twenty-five years later, their courage, service, and sacrifice remain with us. We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Some tips for celebrating safely:
•Always keep a hose, bucket of water, and fire extinguisher nearby.
•All consumer fireworks are illegal in the City and County of San Diego.
•Supervise children at al times.
•Pets are family too. Make sure they are safe and secure.

It’s officially June and temperatures are rising! Heat-related illness can happen quicker than you think. ☀️🚒 Here are a few simple ways to stay safe this summer:

• Stay hydrated throughout the day
• Wear lightweight clothing and sun protection
• Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning
• Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heatstroke
• Check in on kids, older adults, and pets
• Pace yourself at outdoor events, workouts, and festivals

If a heat emergency happens, first responders are ready to act when every second counts. Let’s all do our part to stay safe and look out for one another this season.

🚑 Last chance to apply! Applications for the upcoming Cal-JAC EMT Academy close on May 31 at 11:59 PM.

Thanks to funding from the San Diego Workforce Partnership, this life-changing program is offered at no cost to participants, creating pathways to careers in emergency medical services for individuals throughout our community.

The program is hosted by the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department under the leadership of Fire Chief Robert Logan and Captain Jason Shanley, whose commitment to workforce development is helping create new pathways into emergency medical services.
