Thoroughly disappointed by the level of contempt with which so many politicians seem to ignore the overwhelming will of the people.

Our proposal was very simple, we think it's time to trust Victorians with the question of legalising cannabis.

Instead, the major parties continue to try to shut us down.

Too often, conversations about h**p become conversations about CBD, medicinal ca****bis or ma*****na. Although they come from the same plant species, they’re not the same thing.

Yet this confusion continues to undermine consumer confidence at a time when Australia’s h**p industry is entering an important new phase. Governments are investing in the sector, and the Federal Senate is examining opportunities for the industry’s future.

As an industry representative on the APVMA Veterinary Medicines Working Group and co-founder of H**pPet, I’ve seen both the industry’s enormous potential and one of the biggest barriers holding it back.

Australia's h**p industry has enormous potential to create regional jobs, diversify farm incomes and support sovereign manufacturing.

The Senate inquiry into the h**p industry I initiated has now reported, with recommendations to reduce red tape, improve national consistency and help the industry grow.

After hearing from growers, processors and manufacturers across Tasmania and Australia, the message was clear: h**p isn't the future, it's already here.

The challenge now is removing unnecessary barriers so the industry can expand, invest and create jobs. The Senate inquiry report provides a roadmap to make that happen.

It's time to unlock the full potential of h**p for Tasmania and Australia.
