From packing supplies and making distributions, to cheering from the pickleball courts and raising motions in the boardroom, our four-legged friends have been part of Think Dignity’s work and community for years.

Today, we’re celebrating the 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗗𝗼𝗴𝘀 — the companions, coworkers, cheerleaders, unofficial board members, and very good dogs who remind us that family comes in all forms. 🐾

For people experiencing homelessness, companion animals can be an especially important source of comfort, security, connection, and family. That’s why pets are welcome alongside their people at Think Dignity’s Transitional Storage Center.

And we’re grateful to our community partners at FACE Foundation and San Diego Humane Society for helping us care for people and the companions they love.

𝗜𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀.

In November 2007, a small group of volunteers gathered to pack backpacks with food, water, and other essentials for people experiencing homelessness in San Diego. It was Think Dignity’s inaugural Backpack Distribution — one of the earliest chapters in a story that would continue to grow over the next two decades.

The programs have grown. The work has evolved. Thousands of people have joined us along the way. But something fundamental has remained the same: the belief that every person deserves to have their basic dignity recognized and protected.

This October, we’re bringing together the people, partnerships, and community that have shaped that work to celebrate 20 years of Think Dignity — and everything still ahead.

𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. It is about health, safety, dignity, and survival.

At our latest Basic Dignity Coalition meeting, people with lived experience of homelessness shared the barriers they face accessing clean water: public fountains and restrooms that are unavailable or inaccessible, limited access outside business hours, the cost of purchasing bottled water, and even the difficulty of finding warm water for basic health needs.

𝗪𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀. 𝗡𝗼𝘄, 𝘄𝗲'𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

The Basic Dignity Coalition is calling on San Diego City and County leaders to expand and protect access to free, potable water throughout the region — including greater investment in public drinking fountains and hydration stations, expanded water distribution, and better information about where free water is available.

85 pet owners. One incredible day of community outreach. 🐾💛

This weekend, FACE was proud to partner with Think Dignity and Burrito Boyz to provide pet resources and connect with members of our community and their beloved companions.

We had the privilege of assisting 85 pet owners, sharing information about FACE’s lifesaving veterinary assistance program, and helping pet families access valuable resources. A special thank you to San Diego Humane Society for generously providing dog kibble, helping ensure even more pets received the support they needed.

We’re grateful to Think Dignity and Burrito Boyz for making this meaningful day possible. Together, we’re working to keep pets healthy, cared for, and with the families who love them.

We're gearing up for next week's Basic Dignity Coalition and the Same Day Solutions Fair; can you lend a hand?

𝗡𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵
We're in need of several volunteers for neighborhood outreach on Monday, June 22, and Tuesday, June 23 (multiple shifts). Outreach Volunteers will be provided materials to hand out to unhoused neighbors encouraging participation at the coalition meeting.

𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
We also welcome general volunteers to assist during the coalition meeting itself on Tuesday, June 23, from 5:00 – 6:45 pm. General volunteers can expect t help set up, break down, and assist BDC facilitators.

𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 & 𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴
Then on Friday, June 26, we will be at the Same Day Solutions Fair with our Dignity Mobile Charging Unit and Street Boutique pop-up.

Mobile Charging attendants will maintain the sign-in sheet and help guests charge their devices as needed, while Street Boutique volunteers support clients with selecting hygiene items and new undergarments. Multiple shifts available here, too!

Whether you're a seasoned volunteer or new to Think Dignity, your presence matters. This isn’t just about spreading the word about the BDC or helping someone in need charge their device — it’s about standing in solidarity with those most impacted by homelessness.

From ID Bank intakes to TSC check outs, our dedicated staff ensure dignity-centered service to every client. “It’s the people. Think Dignity treats me with respect—they care.”

Our ID Bank provides access to vital documents like IDs, birth certificates, and social security cards.

The Transitional Storage Center, located at 252 16th Street, offers 400 secure bins and lockers providing safe storage of belongings for those experiencing homelessness.
