Happy Earth Day everyone! Did you know that in 1970, April 22 was chosen as the first Earth Day because it was also Arbor Day, the day celebrating trees and planting trees. It seemed like an appropriate day to spotlight how the planet was doing. Earth Day continues yearly on April 22, but Arbor Day in the United States is celebrated the last Friday of April (this coming Friday), so Earth Day and Arbor Day are not always on the same day. Breathe in the fresh healthy air helped out by planting more trees!

Mission Statement

To plant at least 1000 canopy trees in the University City Community to help replace removed trees, improve air quality, increase shade, reduce the heat factor and beautify the neighborhood while also helping to fulfill the goals of the Climate Action Plan. To help with the Public Health goals to deliver measurable mental and physical health benefits to concrete-fatigued city dwellers. The trees can clean and cool – regulate temperatures, support water quality and manage water flow. Heat waves and pollution cause 3-4 million people around the world to die annually. Trees can help reduce the heat islands, reduce asthma, cardiac disease, strokes and improve human health.
