๐Ÿ’™ There's no deadline on deciding to divorce.

For some people, the decision comes quickly. For others, it takes months or even years of reflection, doubt, courage-building, and soul-searching. Both are completely valid.

If you're not ready to have that conversation yet, that's okay. If you need more time to be sure, take it. If you're waiting until you feel stronger, wait. Your timeline belongs to you.
What matters most is that when you do move forward you do it with clarity and confidence, not pressure.

We'll be here whenever you're ready. ๐Ÿ’™

Divorce doesn't have to mean a courtroom battle. Meet Solagree, a friend of Second Saturday.

Solagree offers a different approach to divorce built around respect, fairness, and moving forward without the drawn-out stress of traditional litigation. Their method combines mediation and arbitration, so both parties stay committed to the process from start to finish, with the goal of reaching a fair agreement faster and for less money than a typical divorce.

A few things that make Solagree stand out:
โ€” Flat-fee pricing (typically much less than traditional litigation)
โ€” Confidential process
โ€” A team of neutral CDFAยฎ and mediator/arbitrator professionals
โ€” Counselors available for emotional support along the way

It's not right for every couple, but if you and your spouse are committed to splitting with mutual respect, it may be worth a closer look.

๐Ÿ’™ How does your relationship make you feel about yourself?

A healthy relationship should add to your sense of self, not slowly chip away at it. A supportive spouse lifts you up, encourages you, and makes you feel capable and valued.

Constant criticism, dismissiveness, and put-downs can damage your self-esteem gradually so that you don't notice it happening. You start to believe the negative things you hear. You shrink.

This is not "just how they are." Persistent criticism designed to make you feel small is a form of emotional abuse.

๐Ÿ’™ Abuse in relationships doesn't only happen to women. Men can be victims too and it's talked about far too rarely.

For many men, the stigma around speaking up makes it even harder to recognize or admit what's happening. But abuse is abuse, regardless of gender.

Abuse toward men can look like:
> Physical violence โ€” hitting, slapping, or throwing objects
> Constant belittling, humiliation, or being made to feel worthless
> Excessive monitoring of your whereabouts, phone, or finances
> Being threatened with false accusations or losing access to your children
> Being isolated from friends and family
> Walking on eggshells, never knowing what might trigger an outburst

If any of this resonates, your experience is valid.

๐Ÿ’™ A short marriage isn't a failed marriage. Sometimes you just know.

According to Pew Research, 16% of divorces in the US occur within the first four years of marriage. That's a lot of people who made a brave and honest decision early.

In fact, ending a marriage sooner rather than later has some real practical advantages: Less time together often means fewer shared assets to divide, a simpler and less costly divorce process, and fewer financial and emotional entanglements to untangle.

Recognizing that a marriage isn't working may be one of the best decisions you ever make for your future. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŽฌ If you're a parent going through divorce, Split is essential watching.

Directed by Ellen Bruno, Split captures divorce entirely through the eyes of children. No adults, no experts, just kids speaking honestly about what's on their minds and in their hearts as their families change. It's eye-opening, moving, and incredibly important.

And the story continues. Split Up follows the same 12 kids ten years later, as teenagers reflecting on childhoods shaped by divorce. It's a powerful reminder of the lasting impact our choices have on our children.
Both films are available at splitfilm.org. (Fees may apply) ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’” Abuse doesn't always leave visible marks.

When most people hear the word "abuse," they think of physical violence. But abuse takes many forms.

It can look like:
> Being made to feel stupid, worthless, or "too sensitive"
> Having your access to money controlled or monitored
> Being constantly tracked, surveilled, or accused
> Shouting, name-calling, or constant criticism
> Being cut off from friends and family
> Walking on eggshells, afraid of your partner's reactions
> Having every decision made for you

If any of this feels familiar, your experience is valid. What you're going through is real. You deserve to feel safe, respected, and free in your relationship. Always.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Attention California residents! Big news for couples considering divorce.

A new California law (SB 1427) now allows more couples to file for divorce jointly for just $435 compared to the state average of $17,500. Previously, this streamlined option was only available to couples married for less than five years with minimal assets. Now, it's been expanded to include families with children, as long as both parties agree in advance on custody, support, and property division.

If you live in California and you and your spouse are parting amicably, this could be a significant option worth exploring.

Read more here: https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-12-31/california-expands-low-cost-divorce-to-more-couples-particularly-those-with-kids

Signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom, the law expands whatโ€™s called a joint petition for summary dissolution to more couples who agree on terms in advance and meet certain requirements.
