Five hundred calls since 2020.

That's the Washington County Sheriff's Office's own count of incidents at youth treatment centers in one Utah county, shared this week alongside an arrest at Kiva Adventure Ranch.

Behind every one of those calls is a kid who needed help. Some of you were those kids, and you've carried what happened there for a long time.

The case is ongoing and the employee is presumed innocent.

What you went through is real either way, and you deserve support.

Volunteer applications are open, and there's a place here for you whether you want to work behind the scenes or out in your community.

Survivor Support brings survivors together to shape what Unsilenced does next. Outreach takes this work to schools, libraries, and events. DIIG researches facilities and builds the database survivors, journalists, and attorneys rely on.

You don't need a background in advocacy. Every volunteer gets trained before starting, and you'll be working alongside people who care about this as much as you do.

Senator Wyden's office asked the GAO to look into how these programs sell themselves to families, and this survey gathers data to help with that review.

If you attended a youth residential program or placed your child in one, you're eligible.

Former employees are eligible too, and your view of admissions and intake is hard to find anywhere else.

It covers federally funded programs of all kinds, from wilderness therapy to religious academies.

A 2012 study of sexual abuse among youth residential facilities found that child sexual abuse was self-reported by 38% of youth. Child sexual abuse co-occurred with physical abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect in 75% of cases.

These numbers represent real young people whose safety was not protected.
