“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of Me, saith the Lord.” Isaiah 54:17
The Hebrew word translated “weapon” (keli) is broader than a sword or spear. It means an implement, tool, vessel, article—or a device. So “no device formed against you” is a solid way to hear it: no scheme, strategy, accusation, instrument, or diagnosis the enemy crafts will accomplish what it was made to do.
God does not promise the device will never be formed. Verse 16 even says He created the blacksmith who forges it and the destroyer who uses it. The promise is that it will not prosper—it will not succeed in its purpose against those who belong to Him. It may look threatening for a season; it will not have the last word.
The second half of the verse is just as important: every tongue that rises in judgment you will condemn. Words, slander, false charges, legal or social attacks—they do not get to define you or stand unchallenged. That vindication is part of the same heritage.
This is not a general good-luck charm. Isaiah calls it “the heritage of the servants of the LORD.” It belongs to those who belong to Him. Their righteousness (their standing, their rightness before God) comes from Him, not from their own strength to fight every battle.
A simple way to hold it:
The enemy can form the device.God already decided it will not prosper. You do not have to make it fail—He already has.
That is why the same chapter can speak of restoration, of a people who once felt barren and abandoned now being established in righteousness and safety. The devices come; they do not win.
