Opportunity San Antonio, TX (KSSF)

Looking to sell my share (1/12):

We are a member-owned flying club; prospective owner-members will hold a private pilot or higher certificate, BasicMed, or a Third Class or higher medical, 100 hours PIC, and 3 or more hours in Cessna 182s and otherwise be acceptable to our insurer. In lieu
of time in type, our insurer requires 3 hours of dual instruction in our 182.

We own a Cessna 172M with approximately 350 hours SMOH (2024) and a 182P with approximately 500 hours SMOH (2023). Both aircraft have GTN650s, and the 182 qualifies as a Technically Advanced Aircraft with a 3-axis GFC500, a GI-275 PFD, an HSI, and engine monitoring. The 172 has dual G5s.
I'm asking $20k (Valued at $23k by our Treasurer in this month's statement) for my share.

Included in the agreed-upon purchase price are a prorated assessment (semi-annual, paid through June) and a $1,400 flight credit that is usable on either aircraft. The club’s joining fee is $500, and the purchaser will be liable for the second installment of the annual assessment ($3,320), which will be billed directly to the buyer.

Existing shares turn over approximately once every 12-18 months; new shares are rarely issued.

About Forty years ago, on February 13, 1986, the Fort Sam Houston Flying Club was born from transition. When the Department of the Army decided to divest its MWR flying clubs, our founders saw an opportunity to preserve something special. With three aircraft transferred from the Fort Sam Houston MWR activity four decades of community aviation was launched.

What began as a mission to continue accessible flying has grown into a thriving nonprofit that has kept the dream alive through changing times. We've logged thousands of flight hours, welcomed new members, shared countless hangar stories, and built friendships that extend far beyond the cockpit.

This anniversary belongs to every member who has been part of our journey - from those who navigated the transition in 1986 to those who joined just last year.

Our members' passion, dedication, and commitment to keeps our club aloft.
Here's to 40 years of flight, with many more to come!

San Antonio Area Pilots,

We have a member selling his share in the Fort Sam Houston Flying Club. Contact us for more information and to connect with him directly.

The Fort Sam Houston Flying Club is a private equity partnership owning a single Cessna 172M. We currently have twelve members who equally share ownership in the club. The minimum requirement is a valid Private Pilots License, due to insurance reasons. We don't allow basic PPL training, but we encourage our members to train for advanced ratings with their own CFIs in our airplane.

The club owns one 1975 Cessna 172M which we hangar at GateOne (the FBO) at Stinson Airport, San Antonio, TX. The plane has approximately 9000 total airframe hours, and in early 2024, has a new engine. We recently have redone most of the interior and in my opinion both the interior and exterior are in good shape. Most members of the club are instrument rated, so we maintain the aircraft to be IFR current, with new avionics in the center stack. Two Garmin G5 Electronic Flight Instrument displays are the primary instruments and a Garmin GTN-650 GPS/COMM/NAV/Mult-Function Display provides the primary navigation and situational awareness with Comm/Nav 1. A KX-155 radio is for Comm/Nav 2, and a GTX-345 transponder with ADSB-In for traffic awareness.

To join the club, you buy a share of the club from a member (price to be negotiated, typically $10,000) and pay a $400 initiation fee. Roughly speaking, we have 12 shares of a $90,000 airplane and substantial cash account for future engine overhaul and/or upgrades. We work to maintain its value to preserve the members' equity. Once you are in the club, we have two annual assessments, one in January and another in July. The assessments pay for hangar fees, aircraft insurance, maintenance, oil, and club operating costs. These assessments have varied over the years. In 2024, our assessments are $1,300 in January and $1,300 in July. These assessments entitle the member to 20 hours of flying time (dry) during the year at no additional charge. If you fly more than 20 hours during the year, then the dry rate is charged at $85/flying hour. You always pay for your own gas. We are currently building up our engine reserve and paying back the cost of the new avionics.

The average age of the current twelve members is about 52, ranging from 30 to 75. Club membership is variable depending on each member's situation. A club membership share may become available at anytime, or not for several months or years.

I believe our club is the most economical way to fly around San Antonio and is great for building hours and experience.

If you want more information, please contact one of the Club Officers (Bill, David or Todd). We will be happy to arrange a time to meet you to show you the airplane.

Sincerely,

Bill Fisher
