Good Trouble means showing up. 💙✊🏽🗳️

50501 SATX was proud to come together with members of our community for a Good Trouble: Protect Our Vote event focused on voter education, election protection, and ways everyday Texans can get involved.

From learning about becoming poll watchers, election judges and clerks, poll monitors, and voter protection volunteers to making sure our neighbors are registered and ready to vote, the message was clear:

Democracy is not a spectator sport.

Protecting the right to vote takes informed, engaged people willing to stand up, pay attention, and help others make their voices heard.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, asked questions, shared knowledge, and committed to getting into some Good Trouble. 💪🏽

At 9:30 a.m. Friday, the previous press conference had run over—a phalanx of San Antonio movers and shakers decrying Mayor Jones's push to put Project Marvel to another public vote—forcing the crowd of data center critics gathered amid the swamp-hot exhalations of early August to mill around the plaza outside City Hall, chasing patches of shade.

We sweated through comments from the head of San Antonio’s Greater Chamber of Commerce, and from former Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran—now the president and CEO of the South Texas Business Partnership, but forever in my heart as the former D3 councilwoman who opted to forcibly remove residents of Mission Trails Mobile Home Community to make way for luxury apartments in her district.

Finally a D6 staffer asked Project Marvel attendees to skiddaddle to the plaza peripheries to continue their conversations and interviews. With the support of multiple environmental justice and labor organizations, District 6 Councilman Ric Galvan then took the mic. He called for a pause on data center construction in San Antonio until a community benefits agreement is in place, a call supported by at least two other council members.
