It has been officially 1 year since Ava's Hug Squad has launched. We started with Brooke Army Medical Center Go Gold Event, and we came back this year with a smashing good time with BIG Love Cancer Care. Ava's Hug Squad had a craft room with beads to make keychains, pens, and bookmarks and kids painted suncatchers. All this was possible due to the donations from our Amazon wishlist. The kids had a blast winning prizes with Tacos Martinez claw machine. Also, the kids got to test their inner ninja at Beat the Sensei Game sponsored by Only Fans AC & Heating. To top it off, we had Ava's slime bar to create ice cream slime sundaes from Kawaii Slime Company. Due to an overwhelming response to our SMASH CANCER Pre-order, we were able to gift the families their own SMASH CANCER tshirts. A huge shout out to Ava's Hug Squad volunteers for all the hard work setting up the event and smiles and fun you brought to these families (Hollie Guinn-Garza, Jess Lopez, Chris Yarborough, Derrick Landry, Amanda Zecua, Noah Zecua, Patty Landry, Amanda Guinn, Grumpy Lopez).

September isn't about just wearing gold🎗tshirts. It is bringing awareness that our children are living and dying from cancer. That it is becoming more common. The reality is that childhood cancer research is severely underfunded. Why is this? Why aren't our children with cancer more important than just one month of recognition, worth more money? Don't let this month go by without supporting all those young, brave hearts fighting for their lives.

One week left to pre-order or donate a SMASH CANCER tshirt! After 8/31, the tee will no longer be available for purchase. This is our first shirt for September Childhood Cancer Awareness month. Every shirt you order, one is donated to a child in treatment or you can just donate a shirt to a child in treatment. Prices posted include all processing and shipping fees.

SMASH CANCER was created by Ava's dad, Nick. For those who know him, he use to "draw" (tag) in high school. He left that world behind to join the military. When Ava was in PICU all those months, he began drawing again on her windows to brighten her day. And now his drawings are inspired by Ava's fight against cancer, inspired by all the kiddos we meet at every event.

I got to be part of this wonderful day. We experienced Yoga Nidra, lunch, crafts, sharing our stories, chair massage and a delicious charcuterie board. And if you never done Yoga Nidra you should try it out. So relaxing. I think a few of us fell asleep 😴. Honestly I was hesitant to go because I know how emotional I am. But I knew I would be surrounded by moms who would understand. I met some terrific moms and 2 of them are bereaved moms. Now we are friends and forever will be linked by the love for our angels. Thank you to the ladies who made this day special.
