This is a free Va**ng and Oral Ni****ne Education webinar for parents and caregivers on Tuesday, September 29th from 6:00–7:00 PM. We would love if you could help promote this training since its free, and Statewide!

This webinar will provide parents, caregivers, and community members with practical information about va**ng and oral ni****ne, including:

- What va**ng is and how it works
- Current youth va**ng trends
- The risks and dangers of va**ng
- What va**ng products look like
- How to support youth who v**e or may be at higher risk, including quit resources
- Evidence-based conversation starters for talking with youth about substance use
- Q&A

We’ve heard from community partners that there is a need for more education and resources around va**ng and to***co, and we hope this webinar will be a helpful opportunity for families and community members to learn more about youth ni****ne use and how to talk to their child about it.

Every year, during September — National Su***de Prevention Month — the construction industry will dedicate a week to raising awareness about the unique challenges workers face in construction that lead to su***de and what we can do to prevent it. Together, we can save lives.

If your thoughts of su***de are consistent, admitting you need help is not a sign of defeat. In fact, seeking help is a step in the direction toward a happy and healthy life. By knowing when to get help, construction industry professionals are committing to safety and wellness in all aspects of life.

BY THE NUMBERS– In 2024, 52.1% of U.S. adults with mental illness received mental health treatment and 70.8% of U.S. adults
with serious mental illness received treatment. (NAMI)– The rate of death by su***de among males in 2023 was four times higher than the rate among females. In a predominantly male industry, it’s important to look out for yourself and your peers. (NAMI)

WHY IT MATTERS
Knowing when it is time to seek help for your mental health challenges means understanding the signs. If you are experiencing social withdrawal, dramatic changes in sleeping or eating, strong feelings of anger, a growing inability to cope with daily problems or suicidal thoughts, you should reach out for help.

GOOD TO KNOW– There are many approaches to seeking help. This could be opening up to a trusted friend for support, getting a
referral for a mental health professional from a family doctor or crisis center or even joining a support group.– Your insurance company can provide a list of providers who are in your plan.– It doesn’t have to cost you. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offer free and confidential resources to help you figure out the best path toward overcoming your mental health challenges.

Know when to make the call. Help is always available at the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. You can call, text or chat 988 to reach the lifeline’s trained counselors directly.

⚠️ The Texas Department of State Health Services is warning the public about products containing concentrated 7-hydroxymitragynine, commonly called 7-OH.

7-OH is an opioid-like substance associated with the kratom plant. Concentrated 7-OH may be sold as gummies, candies, tablets, powders, extracts, or drink shots and may be available at gas stations, smoke shops, convenience stores, and online.

These products can cause serious health effects, including nausea, confusion, agitation, seizures, extreme sleepiness, loss of consciousness, difficulty breathing, and respiratory depression. Concentrated 7-OH may also lead to dependence or abuse.

Parents and caregivers: Please check product labels, talk with children and teens about the risks, and keep these products away from children and pets.

If someone develops concerning symptoms after using a 7-OH product, contact the Texas Poison Center Network at 1-800-222-1222. Call 9-1-1 immediately if the person is unresponsive, having difficulty breathing, or experiencing another medical emergency.

Are you passionate about **su***de prevention, mental health promotion, youth engagement, and building stronger community partnerships?**

SACADA is seeking an **AATSPC Coalition Coordinator** to provide day-to-day coordination and community leadership for the **Alamo Area Teen Su***de Prevention Coalition (AATSPC).**

This position will help:

• Coordinate coalition meetings, activities, trainings, and community events
• Build partnerships with schools, behavioral health providers, youth-serving organizations, healthcare organizations, and community leaders
• Coordinate su***de prevention and mental health education and training
• Engage youth and young adults in prevention and leadership activities
• Promote trauma-informed, stigma-reducing, and safe su***de prevention messaging
• Support coalition outreach, strategic planning, sustainability, and community resources

**We’re looking for someone who is organized, collaborative, community-focused, and comfortable bringing diverse partners together around a shared mission.**

🎓 A bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, psychology, community health, education, nonprofit management, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
