For adolescents and young adults, or AYAs, facing cancer, treatment is only part of what they are carrying.

Rent still has to be paid.

There are groceries to buy, transportation to appointments, households to maintain, and, for many, income that has been reduced because cancer has made working difficult or impossible.

These are not small concerns when someone is already fighting for their health.

This is where the AYA Cancer Foundation steps in.

For an AYA facing cancer, fertility preservation can become an urgent decision at one of the most overwhelming moments of their life.

AYA means adolescents and young adults, and cancer treatment during these years can affect more than someone’s health. It can affect choices they hoped to make years down the road, including whether they are able to build a family.

In 2025, the AYA Cancer Foundation has awarded three fertility preservation grants, distributing $19,455 to help AYAs protect that possibility for their future.

That is what donor support can make possible.

Behind those three grants are three people who were given help during a decision that could not simply wait until treatment was over.

Our ability to provide this kind of timely assistance depends on people who believe AYAs deserve support not only through cancer treatment, but through everything that diagnosis can change.

The Fun(d) Run & Walk will help support both AYA Cancer Foundation San Antonio and Hope at Heart Foundation, helping bring more awareness and support to young people affected by cancer.

The SIOP FUN(D) Run & Walk is officially one week away.🙌

Next Thursday, our community will come together on the San Antonio River Walk to support adolescents and young adults, or AYAs, facing cancer.

For the AYA Cancer Foundation, this event represents something much bigger than a 5K. It is an opportunity to bring more people into a mission that provides immediate financial assistance to young people navigating cancer during a time when life can change almost overnight.❤️

Every runner, walker, donor, and person who shares this event helps move that mission forward.

Last year, your support helped turn generosity into real, immediate impact. ❤️💙

Because of the AYA Cancer Foundation community:
$84,404 was raised.
77 grants were awarded.
$66,655 was distributed directly through those grants.
37 young adults received support during one of the most difficult seasons of their lives.

Those numbers matter, but the people behind them matter even more.

Each grant represents a young adult facing cancer who needed help keeping life moving while navigating treatment, recovery, missed work, appointments, and the everyday expenses that do not stop because of a diagnosis.

This September, we’re looking back at what this community made possible and continuing the work of helping young adults facing cancer when they need support most.
