Phenomenon210 works to introduce youth to educational and career development through peer-led online and on-site resources.

P210 is working to become a holistic source of education and career developmental programming for youth on a 24/7, 365 days a year.

They could have spent their Saturday sleeping in.

Instead, our Phenomenon Compassionistas were up before sunrise.

From 6:00 AM into the afternoon, the young leaders of GenReach spent their Saturday talking with families, listening to the community, gathering real feedback from youth, and registering people for the Pathways to Hope Youth Conference.

And that's what makes me so proud.

This wasn't about standing behind a table.

It was about taking ownership of a vision they created.

Earlier this year, Pathways to Hope challenged youth to develop a By Youth, For Youth (BYFY) initiative. Instead of waiting until August to present their ideas, our youth decided to start building them now.

When they take the stage at the Tobin Center on August 29, they won't just be sharing what they hope to do.

They'll be sharing what they've already started.

They'll be able to say:

"We listened."

"We learned."

"We connected."

"We're already building."

Watching this happen has reminded me why we do what we do.

At Phenomenon210, we believe that when you give young people meaningful opportunities, provide guidance, create a pathway, and trust them enough to lead, they will often exceed every expectation.

In many ways, Phenomenon210 is becoming more than a youth leadership organization.

It's becoming a Youth Innovation Lab, a place where young people identify community needs, create solutions, test ideas in the real world, build partnerships, and invite others to help bring those ideas to life.

A huge thank you to District 3, Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran, Eddie Padillia, Addy Moreno Soto, and the entire District 3 team for inviting us to be part of this incredible Back-to-School event. We're grateful for your commitment to creating community-centered spaces where relationships, resources, and opportunities come together.

Thank you as well to Pathways to Hope, WE Bridge San Antonio, and all of our partners for believing in youth leadership and creating opportunities like this.

The future is in good hands.

Strong communities are built through relationships.

That's why events like FitFest matter.

FitFest served as more than a health and wellness event. It created a space where residents, organizations, student leaders, businesses, and community partners could come together, connect, and build new relationships.

These types of gathering places are often called "third spaces"—places outside of home and work where people can learn, collaborate, and strengthen community bonds.

At Phenomenon210, we believe meaningful change happens when people have opportunities to connect, share ideas, and work together toward common goals.

District 3 continues creating opportunities for residents to connect with resources and with one another.

Because lasting community impact begins with meaningful relationships.

Today, as we celebrate Independence Day, we're reminded that strong communities are built by people who choose to serve.

One of the highlights of FitFest was seeing community leaders invest in the next generation.

We were grateful that Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran stopped by to connect with our Phenomenon Compassionistas and learn more about the work they are doing.

Our Compassionistas are gaining real-world experience in leadership, civic engagement, event production, community outreach, and service.

Community leadership isn't something students have to wait to practice someday—they're already doing it today.

When experienced leaders invest in emerging leaders, entire communities benefit.
Thank you, Councilwoman Viagran, for encouraging and supporting our young leaders.

How do we create better outcomes for young people?

According to Dr. James Hernandez, it starts by connecting students to opportunities, resources, mentorship, and meaningful relationships.

As an educator, entrepreneur, content creator, martial artist, and President of the Edgewood ISD Board of Trustees, Dr. Hernandez has spent years working to help students navigate educational and career pathways.

During FitFest, he spoke about the importance of creating solutions that help young people overcome barriers and gain access to opportunities that can change the trajectory of their lives.

His message aligned perfectly with the mission of Phenomenon210: helping students move from potential to purpose.

One of the most valuable resources available at FitFest wasn't a fitness activity at all.

It was Records on the Run.

Susan Sepulveda shared how Bexar County's mobile records program helps residents access important documents closer to home, including birth certificates, marriage licenses, and other official records.

She explained that when services are brought directly into communities, people are much more likely to take advantage of them than if they are required to travel downtown.

That's why community-based services matter.

Removing barriers creates access. Access creates opportunity. And when opportunity comes directly into the community, more people can benefit from the services available to them.

Thank you to Susan Sepulveda and the entire Records on the Run team for helping connect District 3 residents to important resources and for being part of Phenomenon FitFest Summer 2026.

Behind every successful community event is a team of people willing to serve.

Our Phenomenon Compassionistas helped make FitFest possible from start to finish.

Leading up to the event, they helped spread the word throughout the community. During FitFest, they welcomed families, assisted vendors, supported registration, answered questions, and helped ensure attendees had a positive experience.

Most importantly, they demonstrated what youth leadership looks like in action.

Service. Leadership. Compassion. Action.

These aren't just words. They are skills our students are developing through real-world experiences that prepare them to make a difference in their schools, workplaces, and communities.

We're incredibly proud of every Compassionista who helped make FitFest a success.

One of the most unexpected moments from FitFest happened at the Bexar County Clerk, Hon. Lucy Adame-Clark Records on the Run mobile unit.

Mint and Kevin arrived at FitFest and left with something they didn't have when they got there — their marriage license.

It's a simple but powerful reminder of why bringing services directly into communities matters.

When resources are convenient and accessible, people use them.

Congratulations to Mint and Kevin, and thank you for allowing us to share this special moment.

Sometimes community events create memories that last a lifetime.

Several years ago, Joseph Manansala received devastating news: Stage 4 liver cirrhosis.

Like many people facing a life-changing diagnosis, he began searching for answers. During that journey, he learned about research surrounding the potential benefits of black coffee and decided to make changes in his daily habits. He stayed committed, continued learning, and over time experienced results that surprised even his doctors.

But he didn't stop there.

Driven by a desire to help others, he founded Mayon Coffee—a family business built around a simple idea: make it easier for people to enjoy black coffee without sugar, cream, or other additives.

By creating flavorful coffee blends that stand on their own, Mayon Coffee offers people a way to experience the rich taste of coffee while embracing the benefits that inspired Joseph's own journey.

His story is about more than coffee.

It's about hope. It's about perseverance. It's about taking action when faced with difficult circumstances. And most importantly, it's about compassion—turning a personal experience into an opportunity to help others.

More than a fitness event. More than a resource fair.

What happens when a community comes together around health, opportunity, leadership, and connection?

FitFest brought together families, student leaders, community organizations, health resources, fitness demonstrations, educational opportunities, and civic engagement all in one place.

From kickboxing exhibitions and health screenings to educational resources and Records on the Run, every booth represented a pathway toward a healthier and stronger South Side community.

This is what community activation looks like.
