Gizmo's Gift Helping our nation's 4-legged heroes one dog at a time! Military Working Dogs, Contract Working Dogs, Police, TSA, Border Patrol

Gizmo's Gift is here to provide financial support for medical bills, transportation to their fur-ever homes, and items they may need to make retirement life more comfortable. Watch our TEDx Talk to learn about our beginnings, mission, and more via the link below. https://youtu.be/fJsUwWWhNbU

MWDs, CWDs, and Police K9s are retired for medical reasons such as hip dysplasia, PTSD, severe allergies o

r even degenerative myelopathy and require many veterinary visits once they have completed their service. The majority of K9s retiring are between the ages of 8 and 12 years old and have various special needs. With today’s economic financial hardships, it becomes an expensive responsibility owning one of these heroes. Too frequently people have stepped up to commit their home to a retiring K9 and then found the medical finances too much of a hardship. This causes them to break their commitment to providing a forever home for this retired K9. As a result, some K9s get passed from home to home, due to inexperience with handling these special warriors. Gizmo's Gift, believes if we can help take some of that financial worry off of their shoulders, more people with loving hearts will be able to provide the caring homes these dogs need and deserve.

June 6, 1944 – D-Day: Remembering the Heroes Who Changed History

Today marks the anniversary of D-Day, the beginning of Operation Overlord—the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied Western Europe and one of the most pivotal moments of World War II.

In the early hours of June 6, 1944, nearly 156,000 Allied troops crossed the English Channel and stormed the beaches of Normandy. Supported by almost 7,000 vessels, paratroopers dropped behind enemy lines under the cover of darkness while soldiers advanced through relentless enemy fire to secure a foothold in France.

D-Day remains the largest amphibious invasion in military history. Higgins boats struck the shores of five beaches at dawn. Nurses followed days later to care for the wounded. Men from every walk of life answered the call to serve, including the African American soldiers of the 320th Barrage Balloon Battalion, who courageously served on the front lines despite not yet receiving equal recognition from their own nation.

The cost was staggering. An estimated 10,000 Allied casualties occurred in a single day, yet they held the line.

These brave Americans and Allied forces advanced into chaos to preserve freedom and help liberate an imprisoned Europe. Their courage, sacrifice, and determination altered the course of history and secured the freedoms many enjoy today.

As we remember D-Day, we honor those who gave everything for a cause greater than themselves.

Today, we pause to remember the extraordinary sacrifices of the Greatest Generation and all who stood beside them.

All gave some. Some gave all.

🐕‍🦺🚔 K9 Apprehension Success 🚔🐕‍🦺

On May 31, 2026, at approximately 3:58 a.m., Officer White and K9 Fury, along with Officer Blanscett, responded to the 8400 block of Greenham to assist the Bexar County Sheriff's Office in locating a suspect wanted for aggravated assault.

After an extensive search, K9 Fury successfully tracked and led officers to the suspect, who had fled over a fence and concealed himself in the backyard of a nearby residence. Thanks to the team's persistence, training, and teamwork, the suspect was located, surrendered without incident, and was safely taken into custody.

This apprehension is particularly noteworthy as Officer White and K9 Fury have been deployed as a team for only three months. Despite being early in their K9 careers, this marks their second criminal apprehension this week, a remarkable achievement that reflects their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to protecting our community.

👏 We are proud of the outstanding work demonstrated by Officer White, K9 Fury, and Officer Blanscett. Their efforts exemplify the value of well-trained K9 teams and the positive impact they have on public safety every day.

We are so honored to welcome Balt and Gifford to the Gizmo’s Gift family!
Stories and photos to come!! 🇺🇸 🐾

A great big THANK YOU to Gizmo's Gift for providing assistance for two of our guys, Balt and Gifford! ❤️🐾

Gifford suffers from IMPA, and their support will ensure he receives all the testing and medications needed to keep him healthy and thriving in retirement.

Balt will also receive assistance with medications related to his ankle injury. Thankfully, he’s generally pretty healthy, but it’s incredibly reassuring to know support is there when needed.

Because Gifford served with CBP and was not classified as an MWD, and because Balt did not complete at least one year of active-duty service, neither qualified for assistance through US War Dogs. That makes organizations like Gizmo’s Gift even more special.

We are so grateful for another wonderful organization stepping up to help care for our retired 4-legged heroes after their years of service. 🇺🇸
