🐾 CONNECTICUT FRIENDS — WE NEED YOUR CONNECTIONS! 🇺🇸

Gizmo’s Gift is currently in Connecticut for the Connecticut K-9 Olympics, and while we’re here, we’re looking into purchasing a small enclosed cargo trailer for the nonprofit!

Before we simply walk into a dealership, we wanted to ask our community first 🤍
We would much rather support and work with someone who supports our mission, comes highly recommended, or has a connection to the military, law enforcement, first responder, or working K9 community.

Gizmo’s Gift is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping our nation’s four-legged heroes, including Military Working Dogs, Police K9s, TSA, Border Patrol, Search & Rescue, and other working K9s 🐕‍🦺🇺🇸

On the morning of September 11, 2001, Michael Hingson, blind since birth, was working in his office on the 78th floor of the World Trade Center's North Tower alongside his guide dog, Roselle. When the building shook from the explosion and flames and debris became visible outside, Hingson began the descent down more than 1,460 stairs through smoke-filled hallways thick with the smell of jet fuel. Roselle guided him the entire way, refusing to move forward until it was safe, even as debris fell around them and struck them both.

Frightened coworkers joined the pair along the way, and near the 50th floor, Hingson's calm voice and Roselle's steady guidance helped keep the group moving despite mounting panic.

After reaching the lobby and being warned of falling debris outside, the group moved through a nearby building and found relative safety in a subway station as the towers collapsed above them. Hingson later said that while others ran in panic, Roselle remained entirely focused on her job throughout the ordeal.

Following the attacks, Hingson left his career as a computer salesman to become Public Affairs Director for Guide Dogs for the Blind, and he and Roselle appeared on numerous television programs and in the 2002 Rose Parade. Roselle died in 2011 after a battle with illness, and Hingson later co-wrote a New York Times bestselling book about their experience, using its success to establish Roselle's Dream Foundation in her memory.
