🐾 MAYA’S VET UPDATE 🐾
Well, our sweet Maya was able to see the vet, and the best news is that she’s safe, comfy, and settling in at her foster home. ❤️
Here’s what we learned about our girl:
✨ Bright, alert, and happy — despite everything her little body is dealing with.
🫀 Heartworm positive
❤️ Heart murmur
🫁 Cough — likely related to her heartworm disease, although the vet also wants to rule out kennel cough. Her X-rays showed white spots throughout her lungs, so there are definitely some things we need to keep an eye on. At this point, we cannot say that she has congestive heart failure. It’s a possibility that needs to be monitored, but we don’t have that diagnosis right now.
🦠 UTI — a urine culture was sent to the lab so we can determine the best treatment.
🦴 Arthritis and spinal fusion — poor girl has some significant orthopedic changes that likely contribute to her discomfort.
For now, Maya is starting doxycycline as part of a slow-kill approach for her heartworms, along with Novox to help with her pain and arthritis and keep her more comfortable. ❤️
Because of Maya’s age and how fragile she already is, our vet does not recommend traditional heartworm treatment. The treatment would be extremely hard on her body and could put her at significant risk.
So right now, our focus is simple: keep Maya comfortable, treat what we safely can, monitor her closely, and let this sweet girl enjoy the love and safety she deserves. 🥹❤️
She has already been through enough. Now she gets to be a spoiled foster girl. 🐾🏡💗
Please keep Maya in your thoughts as we figure out the best path forward for this precious senior girl. ❤️
