Happy World Bicycle Day! June 3 is designated by the United Nations.
Unanimously adopted by 193 member states of the UN General Assembly on April 12, 2018, World Bicycle Day is internationally recognized as a day to promote bicycling as a simple, sustainable means of transportation, a way of rejuvenating physical and mental health and an activity that’s good for the economy and the environment.
Here’s what you can do to observe it:
1. Plan a trip. Bike lanes in San Antonio exist that allow you to ride at your own pace and convenience, or maybe you want to get put of town to take in new, scenic surroundings, feel the wind in your hair and explore rural roads in the countryside by bicycle.
2. Acknowledge the day of celebration. Bikes have a transformative impact on society that provide access to transportation for people around the world from all walks of life. As founder Leszek Sibilski wrote, “Cycling is Everyone’s Business.”
3. Spread the word! Let people know that today is World Bicycle Day so they’ll know to share it with their community and on social media, participate in bike rides and learn more about how they can become involved in bike advocacy and education.
