San Antonio Choral Society

San Antonio Choral Society Established in 1965, The San Antonio Choral Society is a 100-person mixed-voice community chorus. Welcome to the San Antonio Choral Society!

We have proudly been serving the community of San Antonio for the past 58 years. Our mission is to cultivate passion and joy for choral music. Our programming aim is to fill a niche that no other choirs or musical ensembles meet in San Antonio. The flexibility of our choir allows us to give authentic and stylistic performances of everything from Byzantine chant and Renaissance polyphony to 20th ce

ntury choral-orchestral masterworks. Our pops concerts and innovative programming have included themes such as Downton Abbey, the Beatles, Zootopia, Hollywood Movie Classics, Gilbert & Sullivan, My Jazzy Valentine, 1980’s Jams, God save the QUEEN, and Ritmo y Cancion. While one of the unique treasures of San Antonio is its promotion and preservation of Latin American music, particularly Mariachi, conjunto, or Tejano styles, our programs contrastingly provide offerings rooted in European art music, which together help contribute to the rich cultural diversity of San Antonio that is enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. The experience to hear or sing with our choir creates the opportunity to be exposed to and develop an enthusiasm for an expanded musical palette. The Choral Society has sung at Luminaria, the return of the Travis Letter to the Alamo, Spurs basketball games, the New Year’s Eve Celebration at Sea World, the Texas Choral Directors Association annual convention, the San Antonio Founder’s Day Celebration, the Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Ecumenical Service, countless city events, and backup to Barry Manilow, Michael Buble, and Sarah Brightman. We have commissioned and premiered choral works by nationally-known composers and collaborated with multiple other musical ensembles: YOSA, Children’s Chorus of San Antonio, Texas Children’s Choir, Chapel Boychoir of San Antonio, River City Ringers, San Antonio Wind Symphony, South Texas Symphonic Orchestra, San Antonio Brass, Sonido Barroco, Chaski, X-Factor Band, Kyle Keener Jazz Band, Heart of Texas Concert Band, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Choir, First Presbyterian Church Choir, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Choir, Yale Glee Club, Munich International Choral Society, Trinity University Choir and Orchestra, and UIW Cardinal Chorale. We’ve been selected to perform at Carnegie Hall, toured Germany and Austria, and presented unique, high-quality concert seasons every year since 1965. Through our annual Messiah-Sing, we have raised over $10,000 for local children’s charities, such as St. PJ’s Children’s Home, Child Advocates San Antonio (CASA), Morgan’s Wonderland, Haven for Hope, and the San Antonio Food Bank. In support of education, we sponsor an average of 8-10 high school and college student mentees each year by giving away over $8,000 in free tuition for them to participate in our choir at no cost. University music education majors can serve as conducting interns to the choir and gain valuable podium experience directing our 80-voice ensemble (we have 2-3 interns each year). We also award college scholarship money to graduating high school seniors who are looking to pursue degrees in music. Many of our graduates have gone on in the field of music and now give back to the San Antonio community as performers and teachers. We hope to see you at one of our concerts in the near future. Thank you for your support so that we may continue cultivating the joy and passion for choral music in San Antonio.
