May is Safe Kids Month! Safe Kids Month is a national celebration dedicated to inspiring parents to take simple steps that help keep their kids safe as they get ready for summer. Preventable injuries are the number one cause of death among children ages 1-19 in the U.S., and millions more are injured in ways that can affect them for a lifetime.

Throughout the month, experts from our nearly 400 Safe Kids coalitions across the country will work directly with children, families, and caregivers in their communities to provide tips, information, and safety devices. We’re out here now at the 16th Annual Free Kids Fair held by the Guardians of the Children - Von Ormy Chapter and having an amazing time with our community! 🎉

A big thank you to Guardians of the Children - Von Ormy Chapter for having us out to support such a wonderful event, and to Judge Ron Rangel for his support. The turnout has been incredible, and it’s been so exciting to see so many bikes given away already! 🚲👏

We’re excited to announce that SkyCare will be landing at Safe Kids Day!

University Health, in partnership with Apollo MedFlight, operates the SkyCare air medical transport service. This dedicated "flying ICU" provides 24/7 specialized critical care transport for high-risk pregnant women, newborns, and children throughout South Texas, operating from the Level I trauma center at University Hospital.

At Safe Kids Day, families will have a chance to see this life-saving helicopter up close and even meet the pilots! 🚁

Injury prevention starts with awareness and education. Events like this help kids and families learn how to stay safe at home, at play, and on the way. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to explore the helicopter and learn more about how these crews help save lives every day!

**CERT Training opportunity - March 20-22**
Have you ever thought about getting more involved in helping the community?

If so we encourage you to learn more about Bexar County’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

When disasters like fires, floods, or tornadoes happen, first responders may be handling multiple emergencies at once. In those moments, the people closest by — neighbors, coworkers, and family members — are often the very first to step in and help.

That’s why CERT training is so valuable. It gives everyday community members practical, life-saving skills so they can respond more safely and confidently in an emergency.

Through CERT, you can learn about:
• Disaster preparedness
• Basic fire safety
• Light search and rescue
• Basic medical response
• How to work together as a team during emergencies

It’s a meaningful way to be more prepared, support those around you, and make a real difference when it matters most.

📣We’re excited to recognize one of our great partners, Ghisallo Cycling Initiative 🚲


Ghisallo Cycling Initiative is a nonprofit that brings bike safety education into school days across San Antonio, helping kids learn how to ride safely and confidently. They also host weekly rides for adults 50+, along with holiday rides and afterschool bike clubs that keep our community active and safe.

You can meet them at Safe Kids Day, where they’ll have a bicycle skills course for kids to practice riding, learn bike safety, and receive free helmets!

• Drivers, give at least 3 feet of space when passing cyclists and pedestrians
