HELMET SAFETY: After Ian’s death we wanted more than anything to prevent any family from ever having to go through the horrific experience of losing a child. It is every parent’s worse nightmare. No one wants to attend the funeral of a child…..especially a death that could be prevented. It is our hope to increase helmet safety awareness in San Antonio and the surrounding areas and through educatio
n and the media that we expose the youth to the consequences of accidental trauma and help them make wise choices to engage in activities and behavior that will prevent future accidents and keep our youth safe.
2.)IAN'S CUP: The signature event of the foundation is Ian's Cup, an annual varsity soccer match between Reagan High School and Johnson High School in San Antonio, TX. The first annual Ian's Cup (formerly known as The Fincke Cup) held in March of 2010 was an amazing success. This inaugural 2010 Fincke Cup launched the Foundation and the energy that fuels the excitement surrounding the upcoming 12th annual 2021 Ian's Cup, The game this year will be held at Blossom Athletic Center on the evening of March 5th 2021. The girls game starts at 5PM followed by the boys game at 7PM. The school with the highest aggregate score for the evening will take home bragging rights and the coveted trophy. In the event of a tie, each school will keep the Ian's Cup trophy for half the year. (See awards listed). At the end of the games, scholarships are awarded to deserving seniors selected by the Ian’s Foundation board. In addition, four separate $500 donations will be made to local organizations selected by each of the scholarship winners to allow underprivileged individuals the ability to play soccer (including wheelchair soccer), or to provide helmets to those in need.
3.) STRAPS: South Texas Regional Adaptive and Paralympic Sports was inspired by Ian’s Foundation as a way to allow everyone in San Antonio with physical disabilities to enjoy the game of soccer . Ian’s Foundation conducted an initial Power Wheelchair Soccer Clinic with the assistance of the United States Power Soccer Association, in the summer of 2012. Inspired by the overwhelming success of this clinic, Morgan’s Wonderland and the San Antonio Scorpions FC initiated the formation of STRAPS. STRAPS offers Power Soccer for those individuals age 4 and up that are confined to a power chair. It is the only sport offered in San Antonio for these individuals. STRAPS also offers a Wheelchair Soccer program as well as a Paralympic Soccer program. Ian’s Foundation continues to be a supportive force behind the STRAPS program.
