Ian's Foundation

Ian's Foundation Ian’s Foundation was formed in memory of Ian Fincke to advance the safety & welfare of San Antonio’s youth. STRONG VOICES FOR SMART CHOICES 1.)

HELMET SAFETY: After Ian’s death we wanted more than anything to prevent any family from ever having to go through the horrific experience of losing a child. It is every parent’s worse nightmare. No one wants to attend the funeral of a child…..especially a death that could be prevented. It is our hope to increase helmet safety awareness in San Antonio and the surrounding areas and through educatio

n and the media that we expose the youth to the consequences of accidental trauma and help them make wise choices to engage in activities and behavior that will prevent future accidents and keep our youth safe.
2.)IAN'S CUP: The signature event of the foundation is Ian's Cup, an annual varsity soccer match between Reagan High School and Johnson High School in San Antonio, TX. The first annual Ian's Cup (formerly known as The Fincke Cup) held in March of 2010 was an amazing success. This inaugural 2010 Fincke Cup launched the Foundation and the energy that fuels the excitement surrounding the upcoming 12th annual 2021 Ian's Cup, The game this year will be held at Blossom Athletic Center on the evening of March 5th 2021. The girls game starts at 5PM followed by the boys game at 7PM. The school with the highest aggregate score for the evening will take home bragging rights and the coveted trophy. In the event of a tie, each school will keep the Ian's Cup trophy for half the year. (See awards listed). At the end of the games, scholarships are awarded to deserving seniors selected by the Ian’s Foundation board. In addition, four separate $500 donations will be made to local organizations selected by each of the scholarship winners to allow underprivileged individuals the ability to play soccer (including wheelchair soccer), or to provide helmets to those in need.
3.) STRAPS: South Texas Regional Adaptive and Paralympic Sports was inspired by Ian’s Foundation as a way to allow everyone in San Antonio with physical disabilities to enjoy the game of soccer . Ian’s Foundation conducted an initial Power Wheelchair Soccer Clinic with the assistance of the United States Power Soccer Association, in the summer of 2012. Inspired by the overwhelming success of this clinic, Morgan’s Wonderland and the San Antonio Scorpions FC initiated the formation of STRAPS. STRAPS offers Power Soccer for those individuals age 4 and up that are confined to a power chair. It is the only sport offered in San Antonio for these individuals. STRAPS also offers a Wheelchair Soccer program as well as a Paralympic Soccer program. Ian’s Foundation continues to be a supportive force behind the STRAPS program.

A huge CONGRATULATIONS to Jada Cano for being selected for the US Power Soccer National Team’s March Camp! Playing since the age of 5 when we were attaching plexiglass to the front of their wheelchairs because no one owned a power soccer wheelchair to now having a chance to play in the World Cup in Argentina in October! Absolutely incredible! Great job to the coaches and players of S.T.R.A.P.S/Team Scorpions for preparing one of their own for this awesome opportunity. Jada is such an amazing individual who has taught our family the importance of setting goals that most would consider unreachable because as we know, anything is possible. Safe travels today and wishing you all the best! 💜⚽️

Reagan High School takes home the 17th Annual Ian’s Cup with an aggregate score of 3-1! The RHS & JHS coaches and teams spearheaded the event this year and did an AMAZING job!! They raised $2500 for the STRAPS Wheelchair Power Soccer Program from Tommy’s Car Wash by conducting a car wash competition and fundraiser with shots on goal against former Reagan keeper Aidan Harris. A huge thank you to Tommy’s Car Wash on 281 for supporting the fundraising competition and to M5X Designs for their separate donation of $250 to STRAPS from tshirt sales. This year the coaches selected an MVP from each team. Congratulations to the following winners: Johnson HS; Addie Brown & Ethan Joshua and Reagan HS; Emilee Durante & Braylon Jernigan. A huge thank you to ARSHOTS photography for the amazing photos and SA High School & Club Soccer Instagram for their incredible support. As we, the family of Ian, took a step back this year to allow Ian’s Cup to become sustainable we were utterly amazed by the coaches and team’s desire to continue this tradition in Ian’s memory. 💜⚽️

Watching kids build the bikes they earned and committing to a healthy and safe lifestyle was truly awesome! The smiles on their faces and focused efforts as they worked to build a bike they now called their own was such a rewarding experience. A special thank you to Earn-A-Bike for making a difference in the lives of local children in our community. Ian’s Foundation donated helmets to each child and University Health Safe Kids provided concussion screening googles so families could feel what it’s like to have a concussion and help reinforce the importance of wearing a helmet. A special thanks to Ian’s Foundation board members, Daria and Scott Putzier, for assisting with helmet fittings. Interested in helping these great efforts continue? Consider making a donation today at www.IansFoundation.org 💜

Looking for a “feel good” opportunity this holiday season? Consider volunteering at the Salvation Army Angel Tree Warehouse. This annual gift drive helps provide gifts to over 6,000 children & seniors in need. The opportunity includes organizing, assembling, and creating gift bags for the Angel Tree gift recipients. The last three days are called “Distribution Days” in which the recipients drive through to pick up their gifts. We’re in need of volunteers now through December 20th. Seeing the warehouse in person is something you won’t want to miss. It’s truly like a real life Santa’s Workshop. Seeing the faces of the recipients receiving the gifts is sure to leave a lasting impact on you. Don’t miss out! 💜🎄
