🇺🇸 USS Abraham Lincoln is heading home — but our sailor care-package mission is not over.

The Lincoln is only one ship.

Roughly 18 major U.S. Navy warships have recently been operating in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea region, and naval operations are continuing.

The two ships connected to San Antonio-area families that we are supporting are not the Lincoln, and neither currently has a publicly announced homecoming date.

For the sailors’ and families’ protection, we are keeping the ships and individual sailors confidential.

As of today:

✅ Neither of the two ships we are supporting has a publicly announced homecoming date.

✅ Both remain part of ongoing deployed Navy operations.

✅ The Navy continues supplying ships while they are at sea.

✅ Mail and care packages can still reach deployed sailors through the military-mail system even when their ships cannot make a normal port visit.

That last point is important.

A ship being unable to regularly pull into port does not mean it receives no supplies. Navy logistics ships can transfer fuel, food, equipment, parts and mail while ships remain underway.

That is how deployed sailors can continue receiving letters and care packages.

The conditions are also not identical for every ship.

Some crews have been underway much longer than others, and we do not want to exaggerate anyone's circumstances. What we do know is that a substantial U.S. naval force remains deployed in the region even as the Lincoln begins heading home.

📦 30 of our first 50 care packages are already sponsored.
We still need 2 more sponsors to complete the original goal.

🇺🇸 WE ARE NOW SUPPORTING 2 SHIPS! 🇺🇸

Our care-package campaign has grown.

Another San Antonio sailor’s mother reached out asking for support for her son, which means VFW Post 9186 and American GI Forum of My City Is My Home are now helping sailors connected to 2 deployed ships.

We are still collecting care-package items and donations to help get support out as quickly as possible.

🇺🇸 SPONSOR UPDATE: SUPPORTING OUR SAILORS 🇺🇸

We are proud to share that our care-package campaign for deployed sailors is growing.

A huge thank you to our sponsors:

⭐ ProtestTax
⭐ Law Offices of Rudy Vasquez
⭐ A third sponsor who asked to remain anonymous

Because of this support, we have now raised over $1,000 and have sponsorship support for 30 care packages.

These packages will help support sailors connected to San Antonio and the surrounding area who are serving on extended deployments and away from home for long periods of time.

We are working toward our goal of 50 care packages, so we are still looking for 2 more sponsors and additional donations to help us finish strong.

🏛️ WHAT OUR NEIGHBORS SAID ABOUT THE PROPOSED SPURS ARENA PLAN

Before City Council decides whether voters will have a voice in the proposed $489 million City contribution toward a new Spurs arena, the American GI Forum of My City Is My Home went door to door near the Alamodome in Council Districts 1 and 2.

We approached 100 homes and received 22 responses:

🔴 11 residents—50%—wanted a public vote before City funding moves forward.

🔵 7 residents—32%—supported the current plan.

⚪ 4 residents—18%—did not have a position.

Among the 18 residents who took a position, 11 wanted a public vote and 7 supported the current plan.

This was a small, informal neighborhood-listening effort—not a scientific poll and not presented as representative of either district. However, it gave residents living near the proposed development an opportunity to share concerns that deserve answers.

The leading concerns we heard were:

🏠 Rising property values and taxes that could displace homeowners and renters

🚗 Parking in an area already heavily affected during major events and First Friday

🚧 Construction impacts on nearby neighborhoods and businesses

📋 The need for a clear community plan with protections for existing residents

Many residents already voted on Bexar County’s portion of the funding last year. The decision now before City Council concerns City of San Antonio funds—San Antonio taxpayers’ money.

Residents can attend the final Community Listening Session tonight:

📅 Friday, August 14, 2026
⏰ 6:00–7:00 PM
📍 Ay Que Chula
1503 N. Main Ave., San Antonio, TX 78212

City Council is scheduled to act Monday, August 17.

Contact your Councilmember and ask:

What is the parking plan?
What protections will prevent homeowners and renters from being taxed or priced out?
How will construction affect surrounding neighborhoods?
What is the community plan?
Will San Antonio voters have the final say?

A $489 million public commitment deserves answers, neighborhood protections, and meaningful public participation.

Public money. Public impact. Public voice.

FROM SERVING OUR COUNTRY TO SERVING OUR COMMUNITY

After a long day of volunteer outreach across San Antonio’s South and East Sides, two veterans sat down for a well-earned drink and reflected on the work accomplished.

We spent the day sharing information with homeowners about property-tax protests and homestead exemptions, promoting our free Housing Finder, and encouraging residents to make their voices heard on the proposed Spurs arena funding.

Thank you to Rosemary Anguiano-Zuniga for volunteering and driving me around all day! This is what veterans continuing to serve looks like—working together to support our neighbors and community.

We ended the day at The Cherrity Bar, 302 Montana St., and found a great community space. The parking lot beside the building may look small, but additional parking is available across the street—so don’t just pass it by!

The Cherrity Bar also gives back to local nonprofits through customer voting, direct donations, charity cocktails, and special giveback days. We hope My City Is My Home can participate in the future!

Thank you to every volunteer who gives their time to this work. Service does not end when the uniform comes off.

🍻 Cheers to community, teamwork, and another day of service!
