Wings And Reins Equine Refuge W.A.R. is a 501(c)3 corporation that provides a caring, safe environment for equines that have been neglected, abused, and/or abandoned. EIN: 45-3033936

The specific purpose of W.A.R. is to provide a caring, safe and positive environment for those equines that have either been neglected, abused, abandoned, and/or are at risk of going to slaughter. We specialize in physically abused equines that are considered dangerous. We pride ourselves in providing a unique approach to rehabilitating these wonderful equines through patience, trust, years of exp

erience, love and, of course, the occasional treat. is a no kill shelter and we do have some long term care residents due to their previous situations, but we strive to adopt out as many horses as possible to loving, long term, knowledgeable homes. We place these horses
in an environment that benefits both the horse and the adoptive family. is dedicated to horse welfare and is an ALL breed horse rescue; we have no limits to the age, breed, gender, condition etc. of horses needing to come in. frequently works with Animal Control and Law Enforcement officers on abuse and neglect cases where equines are in need of being impounded, rehabilitated, and re homed. We also accept horses surrendered by private owners that can no longer provide a home for their horse.

COLONEL UPDATE
Colonel had his last eye treatment last night. He was an excellent patient. He really is a very sweet boy. This morning I moved him back to his stall w/run. His eye looks a lot better and his vision has improved (see pictures at end of video). I have updated our vet and I am waiting to hear on the next steps.

** Sorry I havenā€™t posted in a couple of days. I overheated yesterday and ended up in bed for several hours with a horrible headache. As you can see from the state of my shirt, it is another brutally hot day today and we are not expected to get out of the 100+ degree weather for the next 2 weeks šŸ„µ

COLONEL UPDATE
Colonel is not happy being confined to a stall to keep him out of the sun while I vet his eyes. So every morning I close the main aisle gates and let him walk around for a while.
Unfortunately he does still bump in to stuff and of course XO has to tell him whoā€™s in charge šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø, but for the most part he seems to enjoy being out for a while

COLONEL UPDATE
This afternoon, we moved Colonel to an interior stall with no sun so that our vet could put meds in Colonelā€™s eyes to dilate them. Then I had to wait for the sun to go down so I could test his eyes. I feel like I have been holding my breath all day.

The good news is that Colonelā€™s eyes dilated and reacted to light in the dark. He does have cataracts in his left eye which does restrict his vision (looks cloudy blue in the picture). His right eye is good. Colonel will remain in the interior stall til Monday so I can dilate his eye twice a day and put meds in. The hope is that we can improve his vision. Itā€™s a long shot, but itā€™s definitely worth trying.
Please pray that Colonelā€™s vision improves. He is the absolutely sweetest boy and I want to give him the best life possible.

REDMAN UPDATE
Redmanā€™s knee is healing nicely. I took his bandages off and covered with Alu-mend to protect it while it finishes healing. Our vet will be out hopefully tomorrow, to evaluate when he will be ready to go back with his friend, Mushoo
