It is amazing what we can achieve when organizations come together to improve our environment. When Mrs. Contreras, our LEO Club faculty advisor at Roosevelt High School, told the City of Windcrest the DATA Junior students wanted to perform a Day of Service, our city put together an amazing team led by city council member Cindy Strzelecki : Windcrest Fire Department and Emergency Management, the Windcrest Volunteers, 70 students from DATA at Roosevelt High School- North East ISD, volunteer faculty and parents, and of course -- the Windcrest Lions Club.

The project focused on cleaning and painting fire hydrants throughout Windcrest in preparation for the Fourth of July celebration. The day was a great success. Although there was not enough time to paint every hydrant the team had hoped to finish, many were completed. Members of the Windcrest Lions Club chaperoned five of the nine student groups and provided water and snacks for all the teams. Special thanks to Lion George for supplying tarps to protect lawns and curbs. 2A2 Lions of Texas

Let's help the Roosevelt High School DATA Students complete their day of service! They will be painting our fire hydrants! Please help by cleaning the hydrant near your house.

Adopt a Fire Hydrant!

In advance of our July 4th celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America, we're conducting a city-wide project to paint our fire hydrants that need painting. On the morning of May 19th, students from the Roosevelt High School DATA Program will be doing a Day of Service in Windcrest by helping to paint fire hydrants that need painting - those with white tops. Before they are painted, there is old paint and some rust that needs to be cleaned off of these hydrants the best we can. Some effort has already been started however we have need for more help.

Is there a fire hydrant near your home with a white top that you could help clean before May 19th? If your hydrant has already been cleaned, a purple piece of tape will be on it, but how about another near your home?

How to clean a hydrant - Wear a mask and gloves. Use a wire brush or other device to brush away paint that will come off and any rust. It all won't come off, but any clean-up is worth it before they are painted on May 19th.

The Windcrest Lions Club sponsors the Roosevelt High School LEO Club. Their annual Awards Dinner is one of our favorite events. The LEOs treat us to a delicious Italian dinner and we recognize them for their outstanding achievements. We thanked the outgoing officers with certificates and gifts. This year's LEO of the Year, elected by the LEO members, is Gavriella. She received a $1000 award. We also gave cash awards to Outstanding Graduating LEOs Daniel & Diana! These young students are prepared to make a positive difference in their community and world. We are so proud of them.

A challenge has been issued! Come on Windcrest Lions - we can do this!

At the town hall during the District Convention, Past Council Chair Mike Rourke called on each club in our district to add just one new member before June 30, 2026. That’s it—one conversation, one invitation, one new Lion.

If every club steps up, we will welcome 57 new Lions into our district. That not only offsets our current membership decline—it strengthens our ability to serve, lead, and make a difference across every community we touch.

Why This Matters
Every new Lion brings fresh energy, new ideas, and an expanded reach for service. One new member means:
More hands for service projects
More hearts committed to our mission
More impact where it matters most

This isn’t about numbers—it’s about growing our service.

The Challenge is On
The “One More Lion by June 30” campaign is a focused, time-bound push to finish the Lions year strong. Clubs across the district are already stepping up and earning their place on the leaderboard.

Will your club be next?

How to Get Started
Think of one person who shares your passion for service
Invite them to a meeting or project
Ask them to join
It really can be that simple.

Rain didn't keep our Lions from showing up for our district workday at the Arboretum San Antonio as part of our observance of the Lions Environment Week of Service. Over 30 Lions put in hours of hard work and reaped even more rewards. The Arboretum website says being at the Arboretum makes Wellness thrive, and we're living proof of that! "Arboretum San Antonio offers tranquil and beautiful settings for exercise, recreation and relaxation. Current research supports the link between time spent in nature and increased happiness, feelings of well-being, and positive social interactions. Evidence also suggests that walking in natural settings can enhance mental and physical well-being and motivate a sense of purpose and meaning, helping create a more positive overall quality of life."

Always an honor to participate with other District 2-A2 Lions at H.E.B.'s annual Feast of Sharing at the Henry B Gonzalez Convention Center! Thanks to Past District Governor and Lion Extrodinaire Chris Lloyd for always figuring out how to get the Mobile Eye Screening bus and all our equipment into the convention center! We offered free vision screening to all comers today. What a joy to be part of this amazing event that provides food, music, fun, community services, and good cheer to our San Antonio area community. Lions -- we serve -- and have fun doing it. ROAR! .facebook.com/profile.php?id=61574539955693
