The Kiwanis representatives crowned the Annual Daffodil court on Friday, March 13th in front of their class and parents. These four fifth grade students will be in the Annual Tulip Parade representing the Kiwanis Club of La Conner.

The Kiwanis Club of La Conner announced the March Students of the Month

High School Student of the Month for March is Isabelle Villard. Her parents are Lucas and Shaye Villard. She is a Senior at La Conner High School. Isabelle is part of Leadership Class and a Teacher Assistant in the school office. She participates in Volleyball, Basketball, and is on the Track & Field Team. She is also serving as ASB Vice President. Outside of class, Isabelle spends time with family and friends. She helps with her youth group and volunteers in the community. After graduation Isabelle will attend Western Washington University and plans to study kinesiology with the hope to become an occupational therapist.

Middle School Student of the Month for March is Panthicha (Pim) Wongkongdate. Her parents are Tyler Desler and Supattra Wongkongdate. She is in the eighth grade at La Conner Middle School. Pim’s favorite class is Math because her teacher has helped her understand it better. She is also taking driver’s education. Outside of school Pim enjoys time with family and is learning to play the piano. She also enjoys Jiu Jitsue classes. Pim is not clear what she wants to do after graduation. She would like to continue her education, possibly in California, and join the Army.

The Elementary Student of the Month for March is Leianna Martinez-Manglona. Her parent is Keena Manglona. She is in fifth grade at La Conner Elementary School. Leianna likes writing and doing group projects in her class. She especially enjoys the language arts part of school. She would like to play varsity volleyball in the future. Outside of school she spends time with friends and family. She is not clear what she wants to do after graduation, but she would like to go to college.

We are selling daffodils on the street during March to raise funds. Look for the "hats" in downtown--Saturdays & Sundays. We use these funds for scholarships, support the Braves afterschool program, and have funds we use to help local youth projects. Pictured are Garry and his wife who sold flowers last weekend.

The Kiwanis Club of La Conner announced the February Students of the Month

High School Student of the Month for February is Iris Turner. Her parents are Logan Turner and Erica Johnson. She is a Junior at La Conner High School. Iris enjoys her Chemistry Class where they make real world connections as they learn. She is currently a part of Yearbook and in charge of the Junior candid page. She has taken a break from soccer which she has played since eighth grade. Outside of school she enjoys reading and going on hikes with her friends. Iris also does volunteer work in the community. After graduating she would like to attend college and major in Social Work or Human Services/Social Welfare. She has an interest in public health social work.

Middle School Student of the Month for February is Brayden McGugin. His father is William McGugin. He is in the eighth grade at La Conner Middle School. Brayden’s favorite class is aviation due to his love of planes. He is also a student representative to the middle school ASB. Outside of school Brayden is busy at Sky Flight where he gets to learn about planes and repair them. After graduating he would like to attend a trade school, get his AMP certificate and become a mechanic.

The Elementary Student of the Month for February is Oliver Lopez. Oliver’s parents are Gilmer and Erika Lopez. He is in fifth grade at La Conner Elementary School. Oliver enjoys learning about science, especially the planets and constellations. After school he goes to Brave’s Hub where they get to play baseball outside. He also likes to read. After graduating Oliver wants to become a scientist, maybe a volcanologist.

The Kiwanis Club of La Conner announced the January Students of the Month

High School Student of the Month for January is Kellie Cayou-Lockrem. Kellie’s parents are Josh and Velma Lockrem. She is a Junior at La Conner High School. Kellie is active in Leadership Class, is a member of the ASB, and is a student representative to the school board. She is a talented goalie for her soccer team and is captain of her soccer and softball team. Outside of school Kellie enjoys hunting – elk and deer; fishing; and hiking. She is attending Skagit Valley College with the Running Start Program. After graduating Kellie would like to attend college and study to be a Wildlife Biologist.

Middle School Student of the Month for January is Cecelia Keith. Cecelia’s mother is Suzann Keith. She is in the eighth grade at La Conner Middle School. Her favorite class is band where she plays the trumpet. She participates in volleyball, basketball, track and the ABC Club. Cecelia’s favorite sport is volleyball which plays whenever she gets the chance. Outside of school she rides her horse, plays the piano and reads. She enjoys cooking, going on hikes and swimming. After graduation she plans to attend college to get a degree in either teaching or medicine

The Elementary Student of the Month for January is Seraphine Alexander. Seraphine’s parents are Trevor Hans and Monica Alexander. She is in fifth grade at La Conner Elementary School. Seraphine enjoys her English Language Arts and her Social Studies classes. Outside of school she enjoys baseball, softball and doing pencil drawings. After she graduates she would like to attend school and study to become a teacher.

La Conner Kiwanis and the local Edward Jones office are collaborating this year to bring a bit of holiday cheer to the less fortunate children of La Conner and the Skagit Valley. This year we have our largest number, 23 families needing help. Beginning Monday, December 1st, a Giving Tree will be located in Scott Price’s office of Edward Jones, 708 E Morris Street. Tags for La Conner families will be available, if people want to give to specific needs. You can also drop off toys for the Forgotten Children’s Fund which provides gifts for Skagit families. The Edward Jones office will be open Monday – Friday, 8:30 to 5 for picking up tags and dropping off gifts. Packages for La Conner students must be returned to the Edward Jones office by December 15th. Packages for the Forgotten Children’s Fund need to be in the office by December 19. Thank you for supporting this worthwhile project.

The Kiwanis Club of La Conner announced the Students of the Month

High School Student of the Month for November is Jadee Dan. Jadee’s Grandmother is Janice Joe. Jadee is a senior at La Conner High School. He enjoys his Strength and Conditioning Class, English and Photography. He likes all his teachers. Outside of school he hangs out with friends or plays games. After graduation he is considering college or working on the Swinomish Reservation. He would like to be a Photographer.

Middle School Student of the Month for November is Sylas Walls. Sylas’s parents are Toby and Sarah Walls. Sylas is in the eighth grade at La Conner Middle School. His favorite class is Band. He plays the saxophone and loves learning new pieces. Sylas also participates in soccer and track. He enjoys watching the school volleyball and basketball teams. Outside of school he runs, bikes and plays games with friends. After graduating he would like to study to become a Fashion Designer.

The Elementary Student of the Month for November is Mason Cruz. Mason’s parents are Eric Shannon and Danielle Cruz. Mason is in fifth grade at La Conner Elementary School. He enjoys his school classes in PE and Reading. He recently won thee “Cereal Dominos” contest held at the Elementary School. Outside of school, he walks, takes care of his Australian Shepard dog (Bear), and rides his bike. Mason is considering going to college and is interested in Mechanical Engineering.

La Conner Kiwanis are now meeting the First and Third Wednesday of the month at 10:30 am for coffee and business. We are at the Braves Clubhouse behind the La Conner School Admin. Building. We would love to have you join us.

Our next big project is the Holiday Craft Fair in conjunction with the Santa Breakfast, December 6th at Maple Hall. We also co-sponsor the Toy Drive which will start Thanksgiving weekend. Lots of fun activities.

April Students of the Month

High School Student of the Month for April is Hadden Zimmerman. Hadden’s parents are Tyler Zimmerman and Leslie Swanson. He is a Junior at La Conner High School. Hadden participates in soccer, basketball, and track. Due to an injury, he is managing the track team. Hadden’s favorite classes are Spanish and US History. He also plays trombone in the school band. He is looking forward to participating in the Rotary YES Program (Youth Engaged in Service). He will be part of a trip to Honduras this Summer and engage in humanitarian service. Hadden plans to attend college after graduation.

Middle School Student of the Month for April is Sophia Edwards. Sophia’s parent is Glen Edwards. She is in the eighth grade at La Conner Middle School. Her favorite classes are PE and Leadership Class. She enjoys playing Basketball and plays whenever she can. Sophia plans to attend college after graduation. She is looking to become a therapist or Elementary School Teacher.

The Elementary Student of the Month for April is Cody Mitchell. His parents are Thomas and Emily Mitchell. Cody is in fifth grade at La Conner Elementary School. His favorite classes are PE and Science. He played basketball last year and they got third place. He wants to play again next year. Cody was also in the school play the last two years. Cody loves trains and would like to became a train conductor or truck driver after graduation.
