It was a great morning at Commissioners’ Court where the Court presented the THC Distinguished Service Award to the Wilson County Historical Commission.

The County Historical Commission, as per state statute, is an all-volunteer, Court-appointed function of county government whose purpose is to preserve, protect, and promote the county’s history.

Members of the Wilson County Historical Commission are currently: Melinda Creech (not shown), Anthony Delgado, Jed Elrod, Sandy Migl, Richard Nimz (not shown), Steve Raabe, Tambria Read, Elaine Stephens, and Nicki Stohr.

The Court also approved the Land Legacy Award for Ms Ruth Mueller Ander who continues the families more than a century-long land stewardship of 200+ acres of property in Wilson County. Congratulations Ruth!

These are photos from the LV Historical Assn archives, taken by the San Antonio Express during the 1998 flood event after heavy rainfall in Boerne and upstream on the Cibolo. We don’t know if this rain event of 2026 will cause the same flooding but we should be aware of the past experiences.

We are deeply saddened to learn that Graham Lawrence, a former officer of the La Vernia Historical Association and the volunteer gardener who carefully tended the blooms and shrubs at the La Vernia Heritage Museum for many years, has passed away. Graham was always a joy to work with and full of fascinating experiences. We were blessed to have worked with him for many years. The arrangements are pending. Our condolences to his family and his many friends.
