Community Information Now CINow offers data tools, analysis, and training to inform decisions to improve Texas communities. Learn more at CINow.info/governance-and-staff/.

We provide data that is understandable, trustworthy, neutral, and timely. Our vision is improved lives and decreased disparities through democratized data. Formerly called the Alamo Area Community Information System (AACIS), CI:Now became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2017. CI:Now’s core staffing is by partnership and contract with the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in San Antonio, our physical and institutional home since 2008. In 2010 CI:Now became the 35th local partner in the National Neighborhood Indicators Partnership (NNIP, neighborhoodindicators.org). NNIP is a learning network, coordinated by the Urban Institute, of independent organizations in 30 cities that share a mission to ensure all communities have access to data and the skills to use information to advance equity and well-being across neighborhoods.

📣 A new grant from the Health Collaborative is allowing us to continue to add to and update our flagship data tool, Bexar Data Dive.

📊🤝 The creation of Bexar Data Dive was originally funded by a grant from the Office of Minority Health, and we are grateful to be able to continue the work of maintaining and expanding this work, thanks to the strong support of the Health Collaborative!

📋Just a few improvements we’ve already made with the new grant:

✅ Updating data – a majority of the indicators have been updated with the most current data available

💪 System upgrades – modernized Dive’s software, interface, and servers for stronger, fully supported security.

👩🏽‍🏫 Training - providing Dive demos, presentations, and technical assistance - Promoting and showing how to use Dive, data literacy, teaching about community-level data, including Public Health Camp, UTSA presentations, and more planned!

📣We're proud to be a grant recipient for the Local Data for Equitable Communities collaboration between Urban Institute and the RWJFoundation!

🤝CINow is partnering with the Health Collaborative and Dr. Kristen Brown at UTSA - The University of Texas at San Antonio to collect data on air quality here in City of San Antonio - Municipal Government.

🔍Our project will be deploying research-grade air quality monitors in neighborhoods on the city's southwest side near Joint Base San Antonio to determine if area metal and auto recycling plants are in compliance with the city's new regulations to protect residents from unhealthy effects.

👥We'll also be gathering data from residents via a crowdsourcing platform about any visible events they witness that may affect air quality, such as fires or smoke.

📝The results of the study will be shared with San Antonio’s Planning and Community Development Committee and other regulatory actors with the power to ensure that metal recyclers are responsible neighbors.

🥵 Did you know some people in our community are living without any air conditioning in their homes? We’re thinking about them this week as temps in Bexar County are forecasted to hit 100+ degrees for multiple days in a row. ☀️

With air conditioning data from the census, we mapped the percentage of occupied housing units without A/C by census tract across all counties covered in our 2025 community health needs assessments (CHNAs): Bexar, Atascosa, Blanco, Comal, Guadalupe, Gillespie, Kendall, Llano, and Mason Counties.

Huge thanks to Kyle Walker, data scientist, researcher and creator of open-source software codes which allowed us to compile this data on our region!

Living without A/C may seem unthinkable to most of us in south Texas, but in just one census tract on San Antonio’s Southside, we were able to identify that 2.5% of homes, or about 46 households, are trying to survive the Texas summer heat without A/C.

☀️ It might be summer, but class is still in session! ✏️

Our training specialist, Jeanette Parra, was a guest speaker for a group of summer student interns at UT San Antonio’s College of AI, Cyber and Computing.

The annual H-E-B Community Innovation Scholars Program provides students the opportunity to work closely with and support local nonprofits.

CINow has participated since the program began three summers ago, introducing students to Bexar Data Dive, and helping them frame their projects with an understanding of our city through a deeper, data-driven lens.

Bexar Data Dive is an in-depth treasure trove of local data collected, organized and available for free in an accessible, user-friendly format.
