Happy Paralegal Day! ⚖️

Paralegals are essential to the practice of law and to making justice accessible to everyone. Today we celebrate their skill, dedication, and the difference they make every day.

We are grateful to the San Antonio Paralegal Association for presenting a $500 donation to the San Antonio Legal Services Association (SALSA) at today’s Paralegal Day conference.

Patti Oviatt accepted the check, and this gift will help us continue providing free legal help to those who need it most.

Today, Sam Davis, presented on guardianship and its alternatives today at the Harlandale ISD Special Education Hub for parents of high schoolers from across South San Antonio.

The Southside has a large disability community, and families need clear, practical legal information as their students approach adulthood. Parents learned about:
- Guardianship and less restrictive options like supported decision-making and powers of attorney
- Special needs trusts
- ABLE accounts
- Free legal services through Morgan's MAC and SALSA

Moody Fellow Spotlight: Sarah Walton-Lee

Some fellows come back for a second round. Sarah is one of them.

Now a third-year law student, Sarah is serving her second term as a Moody Fellow with SALSA. She also works at the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office in Felony Prosecution, where she plans to continue after passing the bar.

A grandfather is trying to secure custody of his teenage grandson after reported abuse in the mother’s home. The teen is safe with his grandfather for now, but there is no custody order protecting that arrangement.

He’s already filed a case on his own. Now he needs an attorney to review it, explore emergency relief, and help make custody official.

October is Pro Bono Month, and San Antonio neighbors need your help.

San Antonio Legal Services Association is looking for volunteer attorneys for our October legal clinics. It only takes a few hours to help someone facing a legal problem they can't take on alone.

This month's lineup:

MAC Legal Advice Clinic: Every Tuesday (Oct 6, 13, 20, 27), 9 am–12 pm

Veterans' Legal Advice Clinic: Fri, Oct 9, 1–4 pm

1102 Guardianship Assistance Clinic: Wed, Oct 14, 4–6 pm

Wills Clinic: Mon, Oct 26, 4–8 pm

Notaries and translators, we need you too! Our Guardianship and Wills clinics also need notary and translator volunteers.
