Twenty-five years have passed since September 11, 2001—a day that forever changed our nation and the lives of millions around the world. We remember the innocent men, women, and children whose lives were taken, the first responders who ran toward danger, and the countless families who endured an unimaginable loss.
In the years that followed, Americans answered the call to defend our nation. Soldiers, Marines, sailors, airmen, and Coast Guardsmen—and the intelligence, law-enforcement, diplomatic, and civilian personnel who stood beside them—carried the fight against terrorism across distant battlefields and into dangerous places few Americans would ever see.
We served in Afghanistan, Iraq, and throughout the world. Many came home carrying wounds that could not always be seen. Some never came home at all. Their sacrifices, and those of their families, are woven permanently into the history of our nation.
Twenty-five years later, our resolve remains. We remember not only the tragedy of September 11, but the courage that followed—the willingness of ordinary Americans to stand together, to defend one another, and to protect the freedoms that define our country.
We remember the fallen. We honor those who served. We stand with their families. And we reaffirm our commitment to the United States of America.
May we never forget September 11, 2001—and the price paid in the years that followed to defend our nation and our way of life.
