We know how important your pets are to you, and we want to make sure the food you receive from DaisyCares is in good condition.💛

Because the pet food we distribute is donated to us, there are occasionally bags that arrive with tears or other packaging damage. Damaged or unsealed packaging can allow stored-food insects to get into dry pet food, which is why our volunteers do their best to inspect the bags before they are distributed.

We do our best to catch any damaged bags or signs of insects before food reaches your hands, but with the large volume of donated food we distribute, sometimes something may get missed.

If you get home from a DaisyCares Pet Food Distribution and notice bugs or other signs that the food may not be okay, please do not throw away the bag. Keep the food and packaging and contact us at [email protected] so we can help.

We will work with you to replace the affected bag with a new, intact bag of pet food.🌼

Your pets deserve food that is safe and in good condition, and making sure you have what you need to care for them is important to us.💛

If you notice a problem, please let us know. We are here to help.

Our August 17th Pet Food Distribution wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible volunteers who showed up and gave their time to support local pets and families.💛

All morning, they worked through the South Texas heat to unload food, organize supplies, direct traffic, greet families, and help load vehicles.

Every role matters, and every helping hand makes a difference. Because of their time, energy, and compassion, we’re able to get much-needed pet food into the hands of families and help keep pets healthy, happy, and at home.🌼

To everyone who volunteered during our August 17 Distribution, thank you for showing up and making a difference. We’re so grateful for you and the important role you play in our mission.

“I encourage people to get to know DaisyCares and the amazing work they are doing in the community. This is a transforming organization that is helping neighbors who are struggling.”
— Kelly King, San Antonio Food Bank employee & DaisyCares volunteer

DaisyCares and the San Antonio Food Bank work together to make sure pet food reaches the families who need it most, helping pets stay healthy and stay with the people who love them. 💛

DaisyCares operates out of the Food Bank, which provides the space and resources that make distributions on this scale possible. But DaisyCares covers the logistical costs of getting that food into the community, including transporting, storing and distributing the food.

Last year alone, DaisyCares distributed 1.5 million pounds of pet food through 183 agencies and pantries across 23 counties in South Central Texas. 🌼

This partnership makes that work possible, but it cannot happen without the support of our donors. 💛

Follow DaisyCares to learn more about our work and how we are helping keep pets healthy, happy and with the families who love them. 🌼

This is why we do what we do.💛

After losing her job two years ago, one of our neighbors has continued searching for work while doing everything she can to care for the pets she loves. With both cats and dogs at home, the cost of keeping everyone fed can quickly add up.

Thanks to DaisyCares’ Pet Food Program, she can focus on getting back on her feet while knowing her pets are receiving the food and care they deserve.

“They are a blessing to us all here in San Antonio.”

Stories like hers remind us that behind every bag of pet food is a family finding hope, stability, and the ability to keep their beloved pets at home.

Thank you to everyone who makes this possible through your generosity.

Every board member has a story. Christy’s began with one meeting and a mission she couldn’t walk away from.💛

When Christy Andrews first learned about DaisyCares, a friend described it as “the best kept secret in San Antonio.” After attending a meeting and seeing the organization’s impact firsthand, she knew she wanted to be part of it.

“I fell in love with the mission. It filled a void that we desperately needed in San Antonio.”

For Christy, DaisyCares is about removing the financial barriers that can keep families from caring for the pets they love. Whether it’s providing pet food, veterinary care, or education through programs like Project Kindness, she believes every effort helps keep pets where they belong: at home with the people who love them. 🐾

She also believes lasting change starts with the next generation.

“If we teach children how to take care of their pets, less will be harmed or dumped.”

We’re so grateful to have compassionate leaders like Christy helping guide DaisyCares’ mission and expand its impact across our community.

Stay tuned as we continue introducing the dedicated people behind DaisyCares. 🌼

For Felix, his two dogs aren’t just pets. They’re family. 💛

At our July pet food distribution, we had the chance to catch up with Felix, who shared what DaisyCares’ pet food assistance means to him and his pups, including his English Bulldog, Daisy. (We couldn’t help but smile when we heard her name!)

Like so many families in our community, rising costs have made it harder to make ends meet. Felix shared that pet food has become increasingly expensive, and DaisyCares’ pet food distributions help ensure his dogs continue getting the nutritious food they need while easing some of the financial stress.

Stories like Felix’s remind us that sometimes a bag of pet food means so much more. It means peace of mind, one less financial burden, and the ability to continue caring for the companions who mean everything.

Thank you to everyone who helps make these pet food distributions possible. Your generosity is making a difference for families across our community.🌼🐾

For the past three years, we’ve been proud to partner with Spay Neuter Network to help create a healthier future for pets and families in our community.💛

At our recent Pet Food Distribution, we caught up with Star, Outreach Coordinator with Spay Neuter Network, who was sharing resources with families while they waited in line for pet food.

Access to affordable and free spay and neuter services is one of the most important tools we have to reduce pet overpopulation and help break the cycle of dogs and cats ending up on our streets and in our shelters. In many San Antonio ZIP codes, qualifying families may even be eligible for free surgery programs.

When organizations work together, we can do more than address today’s needs. We can create long-term solutions that keep pets healthier, families together, and fewer animals ending up the streets and entering shelters in the first place. Spaying and neutering also provides important health benefits for pets and helps reduce roaming and unwanted litters.

We love our community partners and know that when organizations work together, we can create lasting change for pets and families in San Antonio and beyond.

Meet another dedicated member of the DaisyCares Board of Directors.💛

In this Board Member Spotlight, we’re highlighting Dr. Darlene Carbajal, Chair of the Communications Department at the University of the Incarnate Word, as she shares why DaisyCares’ mission is so close to her heart.

For Darlene, supporting DaisyCares is deeply personal. Through her work and involvement in the community, she has seen firsthand how DaisyCares helps families keep their beloved pets healthy, safe, and at home. She also sees a natural connection between DaisyCares’ mission and the values of the University of the Incarnate Word, where serving others with compassion is at the heart of both. 🐾

“I know firsthand how much people appreciate every bit of assistance they can get. It really helps financially, and it’s fantastic to be able to continue to help.”

We’re so grateful to have board members like Darlene who bring their experience, compassion, and dedication to our mission, helping us make thoughtful decisions that support pets and the people who love them.

Stay tuned for more Board Member Spotlights as we continue introducing the people behind DaisyCares.🌼

For the past three years, Cammie Scott-Donohue has been giving her time to DaisyCares because she believes in the power of helping both pets and the people who love them.💛

She shares why volunteering matters to her, the incredible need she sees in our community, and why programs like DaisyCares’ Project Kindness are helping create a brighter future for pets.

Through Project Kindness, DaisyCares visits classrooms across our community to teach students from Pre-K through 12th grade about kindness, empathy, and responsible pet care through interactive, age-appropriate lessons, hands-on activities, and meaningful discussions. By reaching children early, we’re helping inspire a lifetime of compassion for animals.

Looking for a meaningful way to give back? Whether you’d like to help with Project Kindness, volunteer at pet food distributions and community events, or even host a pet food or supply drive, there’s a place for you at DaisyCares.

Visit the link in the comments to fill out a volunteer interest form. We’d love to have you join our volunteer family.
