Happy birthday to Felix Benjamin Treviño, a civil rights trailblazer who was born in 1920. Treviño was a veteran, civic leader, business owner, and member of San Antonio's City Council from 1965-71. He taught citizenship and English classes to Mexican immigrants, established a credit union for members of San Antonio’s poorest church, and was known for improving the West Side while on City Council. He owned a print shop and taught printing at Lanier High School.

in 1921, Orden Hijos de America (Order of the Sons of America) was founded in San Antonio. It was the first statewide Mexican American civil rights organization in Texas with the aim to “realize the greatest enjoyment possible of all the rights and privileges and prerogatives extended by the American Constitution.” In 1929, they merged with other organizations to form the League of United Latin American Citizens, or LULAC, the oldest continuously operating Mexican American civil rights organization in the country.
