1:40 AM - Quick short-term forecast: This area has rain closing in from different directions and will likely be the focal point for new areas of flash flooding in the next few hours.

This includes the southern Hill Country, the Guadalupe River, Hays County, and southern Travis County. Rainfall rates over 4" per hour are not out of the question as storms merge from two different directions.

In addition to our gorgeous river, folks are noticing our beautiful native plants around town!!!! These deep-rooted plants are so good at bringing moisture down into the soil, which is why they are both drought tolerant and helpful for flood mitigation!!! And the grasses you see may not be flowering, but they’re super-charged flood mitigators! Huge thanks to the City of San Marcos TX - City Hall, staff and council for making our city beautiful and resilient ❤️

Keep San Marcos Beautiful

Fingers crossed we get some nice rain, but pay attention to those roads folks!

⚠️FLOOD THREAT DEVELOPING LATE SUNDAY THROUGH AT LEAST TUESDAY IN CENTRAL TEXAS

The flood threat I alerted you to last week is coming together generally as expected.

🔹Rich tropical moisture pooling in from the Gulf (around the tropical disturbance which is still unlikely to organize into a named storm)

🔹A slow-moving or stalling cold front approaching tonight from north Texas

🔹Extra lift moving into south/central Texas from that tropical disturbance itself

All combined, slow-moving & torrential rain will develop and move through at times between late this evening through at least Monday, but there will be a flood risk that extends into Tuesday and beyond.

Rain totals will range widely; it all depends on where those torrential downpours set up. 1-2" is a safe bet for most of us, but isolated totals over 6" are likely in a few spots. All of Central Texas is under a FLOOD WATCH from Sunday evening through TUESDAY EVENING as a result.

I will be in studio dark and early tomorrow morning with updates. There will likely already be some flooding ongoing before you are up and at 'em on Monday, so make sure you have wireless emergency alerts enabled on your phone and you have your volume turned up before you hit the hay tonight.

Tomorrow morning the Hays County Commissioners will vote on variance requests by a developer wanting to build a large development over extremely sensitive recharge land. We should not be granting variances to ordinances and rules meant to protect our most sensitive land, over our most sensitive land. Please help us tell the Commissioners to “Vote No” to the Hays Commons variance requests! (Even a simple email with that as the subject line will help!!!)

ATTN: GEAA MEMBERS AND FRIENDS

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO STOP HAYS COMMONS

In April, GEAA member group Hays Residents for Land and Water Protection (HRFLWP) helped make a huge impact and it's time to do it again! The public comments you all submitted resulted in the Hays Commons Development Agreement, variance request, and preliminary plan being tabled for public input.

The Hays Commons Development Agreement is coming back to the Hays County Commissioners Court agenda on June 9th.

Tell Commissioners Court to Vote NO

📅 Commissioners Court Meeting: June 9, 2026

📝 Submit Public Comments BEFORE JUNE 8 at 11:59 PM

📢 Show Up In Person If You Can
Even more powerful than just sending your comment in, we encourage you to show up for Tuesday's meeting!

If we can fill the courtroom, all wearing blue shirts to promote protecting our water, our comments will be even louder!

You can read your public comment in court OR you can email it in and it will be read by a court official--either way we want you there with us!

On pause for now! Also, we’re looking into the TCEQ wastewater permit application related to this data center, so stay tuned for updates in our free emailed newsletter about these issues!

Concerned community members turned out in force to share their views on an area utility providing services to help a data center set up shop in Guadalupe County.

Members of the Crystal Clear Special Utility District Board of Directors heard what the folks had to say, held a two-hour-long executive session and then kicked the issue down the road to another meeting agenda.

By a 6-0 vote Wednesday night, the board agreed to table an agenda item related to discussion and possible action on the Palomino Alpha data center planned for the district’s service.
