Troop 571 Iron Scouts

Troop 571 Iron Scouts Troop 571 in Sammamish, Washington is known as the "Iron Scouts" and is a strong scout-led troop. Check us out. Tier, Philmont & Sea Base).

Troop 571 is one of the largest and most active troops in the region. We have a strong, scout-led program, with support from a large group of fully-trained BSA adult advisors. Our year-long program is Scout defined and led, and has outings for all age groups in the Troop. Our summertime program has high adventure for 1st year Scouts (Tenderfoot Trail), 2nd year Scouts (Alpine Adventure), and other

high adventure outings for older Scouts (Cascade Challenge 50 & 75 milers, Philmont, Northern Tier and Sea Base). Troop 571’s Mission, Vision & Views On What Makes a Good Program:
(as determined by Eagles’ Nest members)
- The mission of Troop 571 is to prepare young men with the tools and methods of leadership development - by providing a supportive environment, to allow them to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime, and instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

- The vision for Troop 571 is to provide every enrolled youth the opportunity to grow as a person, to learn new skills, and to aid the youth in personal advancement – both in Scouting, and in life.

- Diverse/Overall Program – The Eagles felt that a good, diverse, organized program was beneficial to the unit. With the diverse types of outings, which range from events like the Museum of Flight “Camp-In”, to all of our High Adventure treks - there is something for everyone.

- Monthly Outings – All Troop - The point here is that all of the outings blend the young men of various age groups together, versus just an older or younger Scout outing. They felt it was critical for the older Scouts to demonstrate, and practice, leadership.

- High Adventure – Keep the entire/extensive, productive program, Tenderfoot Trail, Alpine Adventure, Cascade Challenge and all of the National Bases (N. This is a MAJOR capability, and retention means, within Troop 571’s overall program. It is something the boys really enjoy, and keeps then engaged.

- Motivators (what brings and keeps boys engaged in the program) - Friendship, OA, Early Scout Advancement, Lots of Events on Calendar, Setting and Achieving Goals.

Safeguarding Youth Training: If you have not yet taken the new Safeguarding Youth Training, you have today, Sunday, May 31st, to complete the training. Safeguarding Youth Training is the new training program required of all Scouters and Scouters ages 18 and older. This new training goes beyond older versions of Youth Protection Training by incorporating the S.A.F.E. framework, updated content including information on online/social media safety, mental health awareness, and information to help foster a proactive culture of safety. The training takes about 90 minutes to complete and must be renewed annually with a 20-minute refresher course.

NOTE: When you login to take the training, do not go to "My Training" and then opt to "retake course". This will not link you to the new training course, but will instead take you to the refresher course. The system will allow you to complete the refresher course and pass but won’t give you credit. Be sure to select the S.A.F.E. Guarding Youth logo in the grey box on the right-hand side of the screen to be directed to the initial Safeguarding Youth Learning Plan (90 minutes in duration) or simply visit [https://training.scouting.org/learning-plans/2025](https://training.scouting.org/learning-plans/2025?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExOE1RRml3elRIeU1Ycm83eXNydGMGYXBwX2lkEDIyMjAzOTE3ODgyMDA4OTIAAR7sK55SHgY9PRewy2KRPaI7l0XaaoBhX0s55kS9YHS0fiTZkCqoSpqK-7kNuA_aem_xWukuF5z73fs5Ig_raT99g) (copied from the Transatlantic Council's page to make you aware of the glitch in the system permitting the refresher course)

From Sunday, April 19 through Monday, April 20, merit badge counselor functionality will be migrated from Scoutbook Legacy to Scoutbook Plus. During this period, users are asked not to add or remove merit badge counselor connections to youth, as changes made during the migration may result in incorrect connections once the process is complete.
