Artists For Local Agriculture

Artists For Local Agriculture A non-profit organization whose purpose is to unite the artistic community in support of sustainable urban gardening.

www.AFLArevolution.org

Founded in Salt Lake City, AFLA (Artists For Local Agriculture) is a non-profit organization of artists and entertainment industry professionals working with our communities to support the sustainable food movement by raising awareness, increasing activism, and educating our friends and fan-bases to the benefits of buying, eating and growing sustainable foods. Our website (currently under construc

tion) will link visitors to sustainable farms, organizations and supporting businesses in their communities. Our site will educate visitors on issues involving corporate food production and show them how to take effective action for positive change. It will also feature artwork, interviews and exclusive song and video downloads from AFLA artists. Our grassroots campaign attempts to appeal to a broad range of peoples and politically active demographics and hopes to open the eyes of politicians and major food industrialists to the urgent demand for transparency and sustainability in the foods we eat. We are starting the movement in Utah and once we have established a presence with a successful business model we hope to start chapters in other states. Please show your support by liking our official page and keeping an eye out for the launch of our website. If you are involved in the artistic or entertainment industry and would like to learn the free and easy ways we can work together to further this movement please email us at [email protected] and an AFLA representative will contact you.

Are you concerned about the downtown Road Home closing and what that means for people experiencing homelessness?

Please watch this discussion between Michael Cundick (Utah Permaculture Collective, SLC Air Protectors, 2020 County Mayor Candidate) with local activist and advocate Ryan Parker of the Road Home so you can be well educated on what's going on and how we can come together as a community to make a difference.

Please call city council and share this far and wide.

CALL TO ACTION:

"At the end of November 2019, the Downtown Emergency Resource Center of Salt Lake City will be permanently closed, in a drastic change to the service model for people experiencing homelessness along the Wasatch Front. While new resources, and updated facilities are a welcome

The new model has included 200 beds at (2) facilities in Salt Lake City, one solely for Women, and the other serving a co-ed population. The number of people currently receiving services at the downtown facility (500 Men, 200 Women*) is far greater than the 400 bed capacity that is being
implemented by approx 65-75 men, and 50 women. These numbers are not concrete as demand rises and dissipates at will. Tell them in their Nov 12th session, to amend the Conditional Use Permits for all Emergency Resource Centers in the city, that will allow during winter months (Oct-Mar) to exceed the imposed bed capacity of 200, to be extended to 275.
This will bring immediate relief to the overflow crisis we are seeing, and will continue to see as demand rises, and the population in need continues to grow.

This will allow all the new services to reach as many people as possible, so those in need of affordable housing may find it, those needing mental health treatment will address it, and those seeking shelter from the cold will receive it! These new resource centers must work, we all want them too!

Remember that it matters not if 700 people were able to receive shelter, for if just one person is left outside, than we have failed to rise to the occasion, rise to our compassion, and rise to our role as a community where no one is left behind.

*opinions shared are my own, I do not speak on behalf of The Road Home
* The Road Home no longer provides primary shelter to Women (overflow only)"

Our Story:
Krishna Food Forest & Garden is a one acre Permaculture-influenced farm just 33 blocks from downtown Salt Lake City. We were recently awarded a federal grant that will cover 50% of the cost to install a 30' x 60' Greenhouse/High Tunnel but we need your help to raise another $5,000 to complete the project!
Two years ago, the Salt Lake Permaculture Guild, Ecstatic Dance SLC, and the SLC Air Protectors all had found their way to making the Salt Lake Krishna Temple a center for gatherings and building community together. Members of that community like Michael and Maomi Cundick teamed up with the original Land Steward Randy Gordon and Krishna Temple staff to help glorify the garden space and ever since it has been growing and growing! In 2017 we added a pond and food forest and in 2018 we added a mandala herb garden and tripled the yields from our beyond-organic fruit and vegetable production! David Turner our Produce manager has been harvesting twice a week all growing season which keeps the temple kitchen stocked and ensures our extended communities all have access to fresh nutrient dense food! Watch our video to learn all about the project!!!
