Before the end of the school year, our Hillside students visited Hunter High and played with boys and girls from and ! The high school players led the younger kids in warm ups and rally games and we ended the day talking and eating snacks. Several of the high school players are former Tennis and Tutoring students and we love seeing how far they've come. Thank you Hunter students for being such awesome role models!

It's time for another Testimonial Tuesday! Today's testimonial is from Mabel, a high school senior who has been involved with Tennis and Tutoring since 3rd grade! Mabel played on her high school tennis team all four years, and was named captain her senior year. She plans to attend the University of Utah this fall. Congratulations to Mabel and all the other Tennis and Tutoring students who are graduating this week. We are proud of you!

“Tennis and Tutoring has given me so much more than the ability to hit a ball with a racket. I’ve gained lifelong friends, met people I otherwise would have never known, and most of all, love. Tennis as a sport has taught me patience, excitement, and grit—but it has also taught me a side of myself I otherwise wouldn’t know. Without Tennis and Tutoring, and the many opportunities it has given me, I don’t know what kind of person I’d be. What I do know, is that I am proud of who I am because of Tennis and Tutoring. I am forever thankful for what this program has given me, and how much I have been able to achieve because of it.” -Mabel, student

It's time for another Testimonial Tuesday! Last week we heard from Owen's mom, Carrie, and this week we're hearing from Owen himself.

"I really like the Tennis and Tutoring Summer Program because it’s super fun. One of my favorite parts is getting a snack before we play. I also like that I learn new things every day, especially new tennis games.
The coaches and helpers are really nice and give me good tips to get better. I like playing with them, and I hope I can be a helper one day too. I’ve also made a lot of new friends, which makes it even more fun.
I like playing tennis because you can play singles or doubles, so there are different ways to play. My favorite is when we go outside and play on real tennis courts. It’s really cool to practice serving and play real matches.
I think the summer program is awesome because it gives me something fun to do during the summer, and I always look forward to going."- Owen, student

We're back with a new post for Testimonial Tuesday! Today's testimonial comes from Carrie, a Tennis and Tutoring parent. Her son, Owen, has been in the afterschool program at Hillside for three years. He also participates in the Hunter summer program.

"Owen has absolutely loved being part of both the Tennis and Tutoring program and the Summer Tennis program. He started with no experience at all, and now tennis has become something he truly enjoys. It’s even turned into a family activity. We find ourselves heading to the courts together often.

We’ve seen a big improvement in his athletic ability, but even more importantly, in his confidence. He’s excited to continue playing throughout the school year and beyond. Owen really enjoys working with the coaches and looks up to them so much that he’s already talking about volunteering to help younger kids when he gets to junior high.

This program has been such a positive and meaningful experience for him, and it’s something he looks forward to every year."- Carrie, parent

Today's first post for Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week features two of our awesome site directors from the Liberty Park program, Marriott and Kathy. Marriott is in her 4th year with the program and Kathy is in her 3rd. Here's what they had to say:

“I love our kids, and I love a job that keeps me on my toes, literally! It’s so fun to hit with our kids who have been in the program for a few years, and witness their amazing skills. Even if I get trounced- the joy outweighs the humbling experience! 🌞🎾🌞 -Marriott Bartholomew

"What a joy it is to be sharing my love of tennis with kids on the court, especially after 42 years of teaching in a classroom!"- Kathy Travers

Thank you, Marriott and Kathy, for all you do to help our students learn and grow both on and off the court!

Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week continues with today's post featuring site directors from two different sites.

John is the site director for Neil Armstrong Academy and has been with us since 2018. He previously served as Executive Director of T&T and is the current Director of Development. Here's what he had to say:

"It is a blessing to be involved in Tennis and Tutoring because of the positive impact it has on children."- John Kaloudis

Lucie recently joined T&T and is the site director at our newest school, Woodrow Wilson Elementary. Here's what she had to say:

"When I was little, my mom always told me I could quit tennis once I could beat her. I remember finally beating her when I was around 10, and she told me I was free to quit. I remember thinking how crazy the idea of quitting was because I had grown to love the sport so much!
Being part of Tennis & Tutoring has been an amazing opportunity because I get to share that love with some incredible kids. My goal is to help them realize they never want to quit too!"- Lucie Holyoak

Thank you John and Lucie for your dedication to our students!

For today's Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week post, we are featuring Ira and Bob from the Whittier Elementary program. Ira has been with T&T for about two years and Bob has been with us since 2017. Both have worked at multiple sites, including Whittier, Hillside, and the Hunter summer program. Here's what they had to say about their experience:

“At first, I thought it was all about the kids and of course it always will be all about the kids. As time goes on - I think I get more out of it than they do. There’s nothing like the smile on a kid's face when they hit a fantastic forehand for the first time!”- Ira Marcus

"I believe individual confidence is of extreme importance to a child’s growth. And I think Tennis and Tutoring offers a wonderful opportunity to enhance that self confidence."- Bob Schovaers

Thank you Ira and Bob for sharing your passion for tennis with our students!
