Last month on the hottest Sunday afternoon on record, Barbara called me from First UMC and said we needed to do something to bring our unsheltered brothers and sisters inside safe from the deadly heat. By the next Sunday, thanks to our amazing community of volunteers, we opened our doors of welcome, safety, and hope. It might feel like our winter Code Blue movie nights, but it’s even better now with games, showers, and even case management to help folks plan their next steps to healing and progress. We had another successful Wednesday cooking and serving lunch to our friends at the Ville Property Management Shelter. Thanks to The Cathedral Church of St. Mark Hildegarde’s Pantry and BK Outreach Foundation for providing the ingredients for this and other such meals! When I went to pick up food from Candace today, I was honored to see her tiny but mighty operation where she honors her loved ones who have left this world by creating Ben Bags, growing a community garden, and working with WasteLess Solutions and many others to distribute food and supplies to those in need. It takes a village and we are so glad you are part of ours! Next week we will serve leftover hot dogs from the Salt Lake Bees game. To get involved, drop us a msg or check out the links in our bio.
