📣 Period Poverty Awareness Week | May 11–17 📣

Period products are not a luxury — they are a basic necessity. Yet many individuals in our community continue to struggle to afford the supplies they need each month.

During Period Poverty Awareness Week, we invite you to support The Period Project through a monetary donation that helps us purchase and distribute period and hygiene products to local schools and community members in need.

💜 Every dollar donated makes an impact:
💰 $10 can help provide period supplies for someone in need
💰 $25 helps stock community distribution locations
💰 $50 helps us reach even more students and families facing period poverty

Your generosity helps ensure that no one has to miss school, work, or daily activities because they lack access to basic menstrual hygiene products.

Together, we can create dignity, confidence, and access for all.

Subject: Support Menstrual Equity for Kansas Students!

Dear [Senator/Representative Last Name],

I am writing during Period Poverty Awareness Week to urge you to support House Bill 2067 that would provide free menstrual products to students in all Title I schools across Kansas. Across our state, many students struggle to afford basic hygiene products. Advocates have continued to highlight that period products remain financially inaccessible for too many families,
contributing to missed school days, stress, and inequities in educational outcomes. Ensuring that menstrual products are freely available in schools is a practical and impactful solution. It supports student health, dignity, and academic success while addressing a preventable barrier to education. No student should have to miss class because they lack access to essential hygiene supplies. This legislation represents an important step toward greater equity in Kansas. By supporting it, you can help ensure that all students—regardless of income—have the resources they need to fully participate in school.

Thank you for your time and for your commitment to the well-being of Kansas students. I urge you to support this critical effort to advance menstrual equity in our state.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

May 11 to 17, 2026 is Period Poverty Awareness Week.

A 2021 study conducted by U by Kotex® revealed that two in five people have struggled to purchase period products, a 35% increase from the brand's initial research in 2018.

The study also uncovered how period poverty is disproportionately impacting Black and Latina people, as well as how COVID-19 exasperated this public health issue. Key findings include:

➡️A quarter of Black (23%) and Latina (24%) people with periods strongly agree that they've struggled to afford period products in the past year.

➡️Over one-third (38%) of low-wage women report missing work, school or similar events due to lack of access to period supplies.

➡️Nearly seven in ten (68%) people agree that period poverty is a public health issue, yet only 4% of Americans are aware of a local resource where free or reduced cost period supplies are available.

The Period Project was created to help eliminate this burden! Join us as we make sure that no student has to miss school or woman has to miss work because they cannot afford access to period products! Follow The Period Project to learn more about how you can help!
