This week, we reached out to churches across the Arkansas Valley to offer free resources that help congregations prepare for potential ICE enforcement activities, understand legal considerations, and support our community.

Faith communities play a vital role in keeping our neighbors informed, safe, and connected. If your church, faith community, or organization would like preparedness materials or a confidential conversation, we'd be glad to help.

We also encourage everyone to visit ChaffeeSafe.org for trusted local resources and "Know Your Rights" information for our immigrant neighbors.

Please share this post to help spread the word. Together, we can ensure our community has access to accurate information, practical resources, and compassionate support.

We're amplifying an urgent call to action from community members organizing alongside people detained inside ICE's Aurora detention center.

Monday, July 20, 2026

People detained inside the facility are calling on the public to gather at ICE's Centennial headquarters to demand freedom, humane conditions, and an end to contracts with GEO Group.

Community members are asking hundreds of people to join a powerful “die-in” that makes visible the realities faced by those imprisoned inside every day.

As ICE expands detention across Colorado—including the reopening of the Hudson facility and renewed operations in Aurora—this is a critical moment to stand together. This action is part of a broader movement to resist detention, strengthen community, and build collective power.

If you're able, show up in solidarity and help carry the voices of the approximately 1,500 people detained inside to ICE's doorstep.

**Know before you go:** The action will take place outside ICE headquarters, where ICE agents, local law enforcement, and surveillance may be present. Organizers have prepared for a safe action. Wear sun protection and a mask. If you do not have permanent immigration status, consider your personal risk and make a safety plan before attending.

WHY WE SUPPORT MICHAEL DOUGHERTY FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL
With the June 30 primary deadline nearing, voters are deciding who should serve as Colorado's next Attorney General.
The Attorney General's responsibilities are broad. The office protects consumers from fraud, defends civil rights, safeguards Colorado's water and public lands, works with law enforcement agencies across the state, provides legal representation to state government, and manages hundreds of attorneys and staff.
While the office does have responsibilities in federal court, that represents only a small slice of its work. The lion's share of the office's work involves Colorado law, Colorado courts, state agencies, and serving Colorado communities every day.
MICHAEL DOUGHERTY IS THE ONLY CANDIDATE WHO HAS SERVED INSIDE THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE.
As Colorado's Deputy Attorney General, Dougherty supervised Special Prosecutions, Environmental Crimes, Financial Fraud, Medicaid Fraud, the DNA Justice Review Project, and peace officer training and certification. In that role, he helped lead one of Colorado's largest public law offices and managed many of the divisions he would oversee as Attorney General.
MICHAEL DOUGHERTY'S EXPERIENCE REFLECTS THE FULL SCOPE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S RESPONSIBILITIES.
Over nearly 30 years in public service, Dougherty has worked on consumer protection, public safety, environmental crimes, election fraud, civil rights, criminal justice reform, and complex prosecutions. His career has included leadership positions in New York, the Colorado Attorney General's Office, and as Boulder County District Attorney. Along the way, he has supervised attorneys, investigators, and professional staff in large public law offices, experience that is essential for leading an organization with hundreds of employees. No other candidate in this race has worked across as many of the core responsibilities of the Attorney General's Office.
MICHAEL DOUGHERTY HAS SUCCESSFULLY HANDLED SOME OF COLORADO'S MOST CHALLENGING CASES.
From the King Soopers mass shooting prosecution to the Dylan Redwine murder case and the Pearl Street Mall attack, Dougherty has repeatedly been entrusted with some of Colorado's most significant cases. He has also assisted jurisdictions across Colorado when communities faced difficult legal challenges. These experiences reflect the judgment, leadership, and courtroom experience required of Colorado's next Attorney General.
MICHAEL DOUGHERTY HAS SPENT THREE DECADES FIGHTING FOR JUSTICE.
Throughout his career, Dougherty has worked to protect consumers, support crime victims, defend civil rights, strengthen protections for immigrants and LGBTQ+ Coloradans, and improve the fairness and effectiveness of the justice system.
He created Colorado's first Conviction Integrity Unit, launched the state's first Mental Health Diversion Program, established a Hate Crimes Initiative and hotline, expanded consumer education efforts, and began conducting Know Your Rights trainings for immigrant communities in 2018. Many of these efforts have become models for other communities across Colorado.
Whether in the courtroom, at the legislature, or through innovative community programs, Dougherty has consistently worked to make the justice system more effective and more responsive.
RURAL COMMUNITIES KNOW MICHAEL DOUGHERTY BECAUSE HE HAS SHOWN UP WHEN IT MATTERED.
Throughout Colorado, Dougherty has built a reputation for being responsive, collaborative, innovative, and willing to help solve difficult problems. Rural communities are not meeting Michael Dougherty for the first time on the campaign trail. Many know him because he has worked alongside them, helped them address difficult legal challenges, and been present when they needed support. He has also emphasized the importance of an Attorney General's office that spends more time in communities across Colorado and understands that issues like water, public lands, health care, and public safety matter to rural communities.
His broad coalition of support reflects that record. Dougherty has earned endorsements from former U.S. Attorneys, LGBTQ+ advocates, Democratic and Republican district attorneys, law enforcement leaders, and newspaper editorial boards.
COLORADO CANNOT AFFORD A LEARNING CURVE IN THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE.
Michael Dougherty has spent nearly 30 years preparing for this role. He has led major divisions within the Attorney General's office, managed large legal teams, successfully handled some of Colorado's most challenging cases, and earned the trust of communities across the state. He is ready to lead from day one.
