This article is from 1992. Karen Gold Gray was a Special Education teacher and a Lyme & TBD advocate. Sadly, we are still fighting the same fight. Karen passed in 9/93 from complications of Lyme disease. May Karen be remembered. If you would like to help support a child in need, please donate in honor of advocates like Karen. Thank you. coloradoticks.org/donate

Beth Scoville was training for a half marathon when a tick bite suddenly changed her life.

After hiking in Pennsylvania and traveling to Florida, the Endicott, New York, runner discovered a tick—but she still doesn’t know where she was bitten. Months later, she was dealing with heart palpitations, sweating, brain fog, and nausea.

As her symptoms worsened, Beth says she began having neurological problems, including moments when she couldn’t remember where she was going while driving. Walking and running became out of the question, and she was taken out of work and off driving.

Today, Beth is back to doing what she loves. She also turned her experience into the Finish Lyme 5K, which raises money for medical scholarships for local families beginning Lyme care.
