Steve Dent Day Program

Currently we have 38 Individuals participating in our Steve Dent Day Program. 15 Individuals in 1:1 and 23 in facility groups. Outings this month included going out to coffee shops, pet stores, lunch, The REC, and the mall. These outings are a great opportunity to practice our verbal and motor skills while having a great time!

At the center board games have been super popular, especially Monopoly. In fact, one of the participants is our resident bank and can add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers in their head as fast as lightening!

We are always looking for new activities and would welcome donations of games, puzzles and sensory items! Or if you own/run a business and would like to invite a few people over for a tour, we'd love to see what you do!

Night to Shine is a Prom event for the IDD Community that happens every year in the month of February! This event was hosted by Salem Alliance Church here in Salem Oregon and it is funded by the Tim Tebow Foundation! This year, I was lucky enough to volunteer this event by being on the beauty team! Loved being able to see individuals from IS Living at this event, they all looked amazing! Celebrating the women working to make life better for all of us! #

One of the most amazing females for IDD is Judy Heumann, there is a documentary on Netflix around her involvement with IDD and being a LOUD advocate for rights and equality of people with disabilities. There is a lovely article about her as well on national alliance for direct support professionals NADSP on facebook.

We at IS Living are proud to honor people with disabilities all year around but especially this month: Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month!

Sharing our Why:

Roger's story - my uncle Roger was in a car accident when he was 11 years old. He received a traumatic brain injury. He spent a lot of time in rehab and therapy. He has some mental and physical limitations.

Doctors at that time thought he wouldn't live to see 20. Roger lived with my aunt Betty and eventually moved in with my dad (long after I was an adult). Just recently Roger went to live in an adult foster care home near my dad.

Growing up, Roger was different. I knew that. I also knew that he liked to go for walks around the yard with me, told fantastic jokes and liked coffee. He loved working at the Goodwill.

At the age of 80, Roger still enjoys taking a walk to get a cup of coffee. He still tells jokes and they are still funny. He enjoys attending church and petting dogs.

Looking for a place to call your own in Silverton, Oregon? IS Living has vacancies at our Silvertowne Apartments for low-income seniors (age 62 years of age or older) and people with disabilities.
Each property has a centrally located Commons Building with coin-operated laundry, a community kitchen, and an area for socializing. Each unit has a private patio with a locked storage area. Each unit has its own flower bed where clients can add beauty and individuality to their homes. The site manager coordinates a variety of activities to promote good health, happiness, and provide a sense of community.
