This morning, Businesses for Community held our quarterly meeting focused on staying informed, aligned, and proactive in serving Salem.

During the meeting, we heard from Commissioner Colm Willis, who presented data from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office regarding Wallace Marine Park.

The presentation provided a clearer understanding of the current conditions at Wallace Marine Park, including the number of individuals living there, ongoing safety concerns, and the broader impact on both those experiencing homelessness and the surrounding community. It reinforced the importance of continued attention, collaboration, and thoughtful solutions.

This conversation was rooted in both awareness and compassion. We recognize the complexity of these challenges and remain committed to supporting those affected while working toward long-term solutions for Salem.

If you’re interested in being part of the conversation and contributing to meaningful community efforts, we are always looking to grow our group. Reach out to get connected.

Thank you to the YMCA for hosting us.

Community leaders, business owners, and residents are encouraged to tune in for the Mayor’s 2026 State of the City address on Wednesday, March 11th, at 12:00 PM.

Hosted by the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Rotary Club of Salem and Salem City Club, this annual event offers an opportunity to reflect on the past year and hear about the priorities guiding Salem in the years ahead.

During the address, Mayor Julie Hoy will share updates on the progress made across the city and discuss the direction and focus for the future of our community. Conversations like this help keep residents and the business community informed and engaged in the issues shaping Salem.

While registration to attend in person has closed, the community is invited to tune in and watch live on CC: Media (Comcast Channel 21) or on the City of Salem’s YouTube channel.

Strong communities are built when business leaders stay engaged.

Tomorrow morning, candidates running for Marion and Polk County Commissioner will participate in a Business Advocacy Forum hosted by the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce.

County Commissioners make decisions that influence economic development, infrastructure, land use, and the overall business climate in our region.

Events like this help ensure the business community has the opportunity to hear directly from those seeking to serve in these important roles. Attending forums like this is also a valuable benefit of being a Salem Area Chamber member, providing businesses with direct access to important community conversations and leadership.

At Businesses for Community, we believe that informed leadership and civic engagement help create stronger communities for everyone.
