Voices of Hope for Aphasia

For Tara and her partner Donna, Voices of Hope for Aphasia has become more than a program. It’s a place filled with friendship, laughter, encouragement, and people who truly understand one another.

Donna describes our community as “a breath of fresh air,” sharing how much they love coming with Tara, watching her reconnect with friends, participate in activities, laugh, and lift others up along the way.

“It’s inspiring,” Donna says. And honestly, we couldn’t agree more.

Stories like Tara’s are exactly why Voices of Hope for Aphasia exists: to create connection, community, and support for people living with aphasia and the people who love them.

Thank you, City of Safety Harbor Government, for raising awareness of aphasia in your community! June is national aphasia awareness month, but awareness of the condition and the resources available continues all year long. If you or someone you love has aphasia, Voices of Hope for Aphasia and the National Aphasia Association are here to support you and connect you with the resources you need!

Last night, the Safety Harbor City Commission proudly proclaimed June 2026 as National Aphasia Awareness Month. Vice Mayor Nancy Besore presented the proclamation to representatives from Voices of Hope for Aphasia. The proclamation recognizes the thousands of people in Pinellas County living with aphasia—a communication disorder most often caused by stroke.

Aphasia affects a person's ability to communicate, not their intelligence. By learning the signs and supporting organizations like Voices of Hope for Aphasia, we can help create a more informed, inclusive community where everyone has a voice. 💙
