San Martin Bridge Update!!

Once again, construction has progressed much quicker than anticipated. PCL Construction anticipates pulling the new wastewater pipe through the tunnel this Monday, June 1. This work will run continuously for 24-72 hours, until the pipe is fully through the tunnel. Residents may hear construction noise at night during this time. Care will be taken to direct lights away from homes.

After the pipe pull is completed, crews will connect the new pipes to the existing pipes near Weedon and Tallahassee drives. However, since the contractor is ahead of schedule, you may notice a lull in activities between the completion of the pipe pull and the tie-ins, anticipated in late June.

The San Martin Bridge will remain one single lane of alternating traffic through project completion; bicycles and vehicles share the roadway single file.

Following up on the discussions at our RBCA General Meeting this week regarding Elevate Florida, please see Brandi’s post regarding the program and if you are in the process please reach out to her office.

Today I sent the following email and attached letter to our Pinellas County representatives in the Florida Legislature.

As an advocate for resilient communities I realize that we will never achieve our goals as a coastal city without relying on the leadership of those in higher office. I stand with residents who are tired and frustrated with the Elevate Florida process and demand that they receive the answers and resources from the state that they have been long awaiting.

Good afternoon Senator DiCeglie and Members of the Pinellas County Delegation,

As you continue with budget discussions this week, I am reaching out in advocacy for the prompt deployment of the Elevate Florida Program. As many of our residents continue to recover from the storms of 2024, delays in funding distribution have left many residents in limbo, struggling to make recovery decisions while dealing with ongoing storm damage and financial uncertainty.

I appreciate your continued service and attention to the issues affecting our community, thank you for taking the time to review the attached letter.

📣 ONE WEEK AWAY: RBCA General Meeting – Don’t Miss It!

Just one week until the Riviera Bay Civic Association General Meeting, and we’ve got a packed agenda with updates that directly impact our neighborhood—from safety and traffic concerns to resiliency planning and hurricane season prep.

📍 IMPORTANT LOCATION UPDATE
Due to a conflicting event, we’ve been moved into the Main Sanctuary building at the church. Because of facility rules, no food or beverages are allowed, so we will not be providing our usual pizza dinner this month.

Even without dinner, this meeting is one you’ll want to attend—there’s a lot happening right now in Riviera Bay.

These meetings are where the real neighborhood work happens—traffic, safety, waterways, and long-term planning all get shaped by the conversations we have together.

We hope you’ll join us, stay informed, and be part of the discussion.

See you there.

UPDATE: SAN MARTIN BRIDGE

Overnight Work Begins May 8; Lane Shift Scheduled for May 13

Construction for the new watermain underneath Riviera Bay has progressed much quicker than expected and the contractor anticipate pulling pipe through the tunnel this Friday, May 8. This work will run continuously for 24-72 hours, including the weekend, until the pipe is fully through the tunnel. Residents may hear construction noise at night during this time. Care will be taken to direct lights away from homes.

RBCA has confirmed with the project contact this overnight/weekend work will not impact boat traffic under the bridge.

After the pipe pull is completed, the contractor will move equipment to the opposite side of San Martin Boulevard to begin tunneling for the wastewater main. Traffic will shift to the south/westbound lane, tentatively May 13.
