Small Changes takes to the sea for a light kayak adventure! Taking time to enjoy our beautiful ocean, as well as picking up some trash along the way, is a great way to spend a Sunday!
USF students: did you know that you can take out kayaks, paddle boards, sailboats, and much more at the St. Petersburg campus Waterfront? I feel so honored and blessed to announce that I am the recipient of the 2022 Hope Scholarship! This was such a unique opportunity to earn money towards my education, where I could showcase the work that I love! For any students entering their senior year, keep this scholarship in the back of your mind next spring! It was a very simple application, paired with a short video you can create to showcase your earth-loving efforts!

The Small Changes crew went to the cleanup in Madeira Beach yesterday! We found many microplastics, cigarette butts, and even spotted a few sea turtle nests! The Trash Turtles team are so friendly and welcoming! We absolutely loved hanging with them for the morning and learning more about their organization! Thank you all for the amazing work you do! Happy World Sea Turtle Day! 🐢♥️
Did you know that out of the 7 species of sea turtles, 5 of them are native to Florida! It’s super uncommon to get Flatbacks and olive Ridley’s in our area. Kind of a shame considering how cute they all are!

Small Changes is now Lifeguard, CPR, and Waterfront certified!
We also took a little turtle tour after training 👀🐢
Jessica (aka me, the founder) spent the last two days at the Suncoast Youth Conservation Center in Apollo Beach Florida undergoing lifeguard training with the . It was such a fun experience full of lots of information and exercise! I highly recommend this training if you are interested! My instructor was amazing and super supportive!
While at the center, we came to discover that the sea turtle rehabilitation center was in the same area! Obviously we had to go and visit! It was an awesome facility for such a small space and it was so cool to be able to take a little turtle tour after two full days of hard work! Thank you the staff at this location for all of your hard work!

It’s official!! 💚💛
I will be continuing my studies at the University of South Florida’s College of Marine Science! It was a huge decision, but between the amazing location with so many local environmental organizations around campus, and the beautiful views, there was no better choice for me!

Our biggest beach cleanup yet!
We took on Gandy Beach this morning with our 39 amazing volunteers! We collected over 115 pounds of trash, including microplastics and hazardous waste! I could not be more proud of our record breakers for giving us our greatest amount of trash collected in a single cleanup, with our largest number of volunteers at an event! Awesome job Small Change Nation!
As always, we give an extra special thank you to for partnering with us on this awesome event, and lending us enough supplies to accommodate for our amazing turn out!

Small Changes won an award!! Today, we got the amazing privilege to attend Annual Awards Banquet. It was such a beautiful event and they did an amazing job celebrating the amazing organizations and volunteers that have helped keep our community beautiful!
On top of the excitement of just being able to be in a room with so many groundbreakers in the environmental field, I was also honored to receive the award for Outstanding Site Captain! Keep Pinellas Beautiful has a Site Captain Ambassador program, along with many others, where I have been able to organize beach cleanup events across Pinellas County. I absolutely love this position and it was so sweet to be honored for this role!
Thank you so much again to Keep Pinellas Beautiful for your ongoing support! Working with your organization is one of the highlights of what I do and I cannot wait to continue the great work we’re doing! Congratulations to everyone honored today at this event, and let it serve as an amazing reminder of why small changes matter!
And can we talk about how cool it was that the awards were herbs?! I love it!!!!!!
