A disturbing new report is shedding light on just how widespread AI-generated p*rnograhy has become among teenagers. -Thorn.org
➡️ 1 in 8 know someone who was targeted by deep fake explicit images.
➡️ 1 in 17 say they’ve been victims themselves.
New “nudify” apps make it extremely easy to pull a harmless photo from social media, or even a school yearbook, and manipulate it into an extremely realistic photo or video. And it’s not just online predators or criminal gangs committing these horrendous acts, it’s also kids doing it to each other!
What do we do about this? How do we protect ourselves and our kids? Parents, please don’t put your kids photos out everywhere on social media. Keep your accounts private. Have conversations about this in advance, so if it happens, you’ll have a plan in place.
What to do:
✅ Take a screenshot. Unfortunately, you’ll need to do this to preserve the evidence.
✅ Report it using the reporting mechanism on the online platform. They are required to remove it within 48 hours.
✅ Report it to the police. It’s a felony to create or possess explicit AI images of a minor.
✅ Another resource is takeitdown.ncmec.org
✅ Support your child. Their feelings of violation and humiliation are valid, even though it’s technically not a real photo. Look for signs of declining mental health.
Remember, even if your child didn’t generate the image, and simply received it, they are still liable and must delete the images immediately!
These new laws passed in 2025 - if enforced - are powerful in protecting victims. Several lawsuits are underway now, and we hope the perpetrators and the platforms are punished by the full extent of the law. Social media companies need to take protecting children seriously, so this is a fantastic start.
