It was a beautiful night for a baseball at Highland Friendship Club's Really Big Game! Friends, family and community all gathered to cheer on Highland Friendship Club members as they went up to bat and had a blast rounding the bases at CHS Field in St. Paul. The St. Paul Lions were proud to support this incredible event as volunteers once again ⚾

This Monday our membership heard from Adero Riser Cobb, President and CEO of Keystone Community Services, speaking on Keystone's mission to provide quality, healthy food for our neighbors in need, helping them be self-sufficient, stable and successful.

Keystone's 'Leo' Foodmobile was funded by a coalition of Lions organizations, and we are always grateful to hear just how many people it and their many other sites are helping to achieve food security each month. Beyond funding the purchase of the 'Leo' vehicle, the St Paul Lions wanted to ensure it was sustainable, with an additional gift of nearly $13,000 to Keystone to help cover the costs of maintenance. We also welcomed our newest member, Liz Irizarry! Liz is the Development Associate and Enrichment Coordinator for Wingspan Life Resources. Along with uplifting fundraising and marketing efforts, Liz is responsible for organizing the many opportunities Wingspan provides people with disabilities to express their ability and creativity; things like Spoken Word & Poetry Club, Puppet-Making Classes, Drum Circle, and so much more. Welcome, Liz!

We also welcomed our newly-elected Board of Directors, including incoming President, Harry Hohman. We could not be more grateful to the outgoing Board and the leadership of Past President, Craig Hamm, for a fantastic year and term!

We are incredibly grateful for the continued support and partnership from the St. Paul Lions. This generous grant helps TSE continue creating meaningful opportunities, strengthening community connections, and supporting the individuals and programs that make our mission possible.

Community partnerships like this are what allow us to keep growing together and making a difference.

A job well-done at Wingspan Life Resources' Hoyt Avenue group home! While Direct Service Professionals provide round-the-clock care to group home residents, it takes a village of volunteers to make their outdoor spaces bright and welcoming by mowing, weeding, raking and trimming. We're proud to do our part!

The St Paul Lions are incredibly proud to have had one of our own recently named to the Lions MD5M Hall of Fame!

Past Council Chair David Dominick has been a Lion since 2005. He has held all the offices of the St. Paul Lions Club including President from 2008-2010 and Club Secretary for many years.

He was District Governor of District 5M6 in 2012-2013 and MD5M Council Chair from 2013-2014.

Dave has also been a board member and volunteer for many other local non-profits including the St. Paul Rotary Club, Midway Chamber of Commerce, Ally People Solutions, St. Paul Winter Carnival, Eastside Neighborhood Services, and is currently a board member of Twin Cities Red Cross.

Dave serves as the Executive Director of YMCA of the North, including overseeing the St. Paul Midway branch. He is also the Public Policy Director of the MN Alliance of YMCAs.

Dave epitomizes the motto of our organization, “We Serve," and has demonstrated the highest level of commitment and dedication to the efforts of Lions in 5M6, MD5M, and beyond.

Our speaker at this month's member meeting was Laurie Carlson with Can Do Canines! She explained how their organization helps people with disabilities live free and independent lives through their service dog training program. Sam, who is in training as a Diabetes Assist Dog, demonstrated how she can pick up pill bottles or nudge her owner when she senses they have low blood sugar.

This week's meeting brought the St Paul Lions a new member! Welcome aboard, Luke!

We also enjoyed a presentation from Rebuilding Together Minnesota! Rebuilding Together's mission is repairing homes, revitalizing communities, rebuilding lives. They serve low-income homeowners who are seniors, individuals living with disabilities, families with children, and veterans and their families in need. They also serve nonprofit facilities in need of repairs.

Since 1997, they've been working year-round to sustain healthy neighborhoods and ensure that people in need can live independently and safely in their homes.
