MN Asian Peace Officers Association Their commitments lead to gaining the support from Police Chief John Harrington and the National Asian Peace Officers Association (NAPOA).

Bridge the gap between the Asian Community and Law Enforcement to build trusted relationships and to foster talented individuals as leaders to promote Law Enforcement within our Community. The Minnesota Asian Peace Officers Association (MNAPOA) started in 2008 with four Asian veteran police officers coming together with a vision to help their younger recruited and newly hired Asian police officers

with their career path through support, guidance, and resources. They knew and experienced the adversary of being an Asian police officer in Minnesota where traditionally law enforcement careers aren’t widely pursued and supported by the Asian communities or their families. They’ve created a vision and the goals that created the opportunities for law enforcement agencies to be more reflective and responsive of the communities they served. The Minnesota Asian Peace Officers Association (MNAPOA) is a non-profit organization with the goals to build a successful recruitment and retention of talented multilingual and educated Asian law enforcement professionals, create a stronger working relationship between the Asian community and law enforcement, establish a networking system among Asian peace officers, and promote awareness and understanding of the many rich Asian ethnic cultures into law enforcement. As of 2016, the Minnesota Asian Peace Officers Association (MNAPOA) has grown to more than 170 members from various local, county, and state agencies, and members’ with many rich backgrounds in Asian, Latinos, Blacks, and Whites. The Minnesota Asian Peace Officers Association (MNAPOA) is here for the communities they serve and the law enforcement communities that they're a family of.

Ofc. Paw, along with 27 others, went through a rigorous 4-month academy. One that tested their emotional, mental, and physical will. This kind of resilience and grit prepares them for what’s to come next.

Minnesota Asian Peace Officers Association (MNAPOA) acknowledges the recent activities of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). We understand these federal agencies' primary duties are necessary to protect this nation; however, their approach and tactics so far has created great distress and animosity.

MNAPOA recognizes and empathizes that their actions have severely impacted our community and local law enforcement agencies. We encourage those who are impacted in any way to seek community resources for support and assistance, as well as educating and self-awareness from reliable and credible sources.

This is an unprecedented time, and Minnesota faces a unique challenge, but we have historically navigated and overcome difficult situations through unity and collective effort. MNAPOA will remain true to our mission, including respectful and productive dialogue that promotes understanding.

IT’S OFFICAL! Former Saint Paul Mayor Melvin Carter has designated January 1, 2026, as Inspector Mong Lee Day!

This proclamation honors Inspector Lee for his outstanding contributions and unwavering commitment to the community and law enforcement.

His dedication with Saint Paul Police Department as a critical asset for the last 23 years in all three districts, as well as the Backgrounds Unit, Missing Persons Unit, Community Engagement and a School Resource Officer.

Inspector Lee is also one of MNAPOA’s founding fathers. He recognized early on the need to mentor, recruit, and retain officers that mirrors the community. This opened an avenue for the rest of us to dream and make dreams come true!

This goes to show great things doesn’t happen overnight. It’s grit and grace with determination that makes it possible. Thank you for being a driving force and pioneer for all of us!

Many members of the Hmong community are reflecting on their 50 years in the United States, including Ramsey County Sheriff's Office Undersheriff Chy Nou Lee.

Raised by parents who fled war and persecution, Undersheriff Lee embodies their resilience and determination by paving a path and setting an example for the rest of us. Thank you for leading future generations!

FUN FACT: Undersheriff Lee is one of the first and highest ranking Hmong-American law enforcement officials in Minnesota.

This morning the Minnesota Asian Peace Officers Association (MNAPOA) had its 10th annual Glow of Hope. A compassionate community initiative dedicated to giving back during the holiday season. This project aims to ‘glow’ some ‘hope’ back into the lives of families facing hardship or in need.

It’s similar to the traditional Shop with A Cop, but there’s one noticeable difference – it involves an entire family. Not only were these families nominated by MNAPOA members but also by the community, making Glow of Hope even more special by being inclusive.

Throughout the years, MNAPOA recognized there was a common ask from families, which was food. So… with 18 families (roughly 117 family members, ages 6 months to 65 years old) we went grocery shopping at Golden Harvest Foods in Saint Paul, Minnesota. These families were from all different backgrounds with different needs.

Thank you to all the members who came out to help these families shop and load up their carts and trunks full!

Blaine Police Department
Minnesota State Patrol
Hennepin County Sheriff's Office
Metro Transit Police Department
Ramsey County Sheriff's Office (RCSO)
Saint Paul Park Police Department
Saint Paul Police Department
White Bear Lake Police Department

Most importantly, none of this would have been possible without the generous donations and contributions from:
Golden Harvest Foods
Calvary Church
Community Choice Home Health Care
RCSO Community Engagement
Knight Sky Protection
American Legion 3H Post 1975
and all the community members who share the same compassion towards this initiative!
