At the 2026 American Legion National Convention, delegates adopted new membership eligibility language for the American Legion Auxiliary — expanding eligibility and allowing more family members to join the ALA. Honor, Remember, and Stand Together: 25th Anniversary 9/11 Remembrance Service

Twenty-five years ago, our nation changed forever. We remember the 2,977 innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. We honor the extraordinary courage of the first responders—our firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and service members—who ran toward danger without hesitation, as well as the brave military forces who answered the call in the days and years that followed.

Through the tragedy, we saw the unbeatable strength of unity, resilience, and hope. A quarter century later, our vow remains unchanged: We Will Never Forget.

Join us as we gather as a community to pay tribute, share moments of silence, and ensure the legacy of our heroes lives on.

Twelve American Legion Auxiliary departments (states) were recognized Aug. 31 as Merit Medallion winners on stage at the ALA’s 105th National Convention in Louisville, Ky. 🌟 The Department Merit Medallion Award focuses on recognizing and celebrating departments that strive for and achieve excellence in mission and business practices. 👏
